I saw an advert in Bunkered magazine issue 84 reviewing the NEW Shotmiser G300 the adverted stated,

It's quite possibly the most technologically advanced handheld GPS system the industry has ever seen ...the results, we can report, are nothing short of exceptional. (Bunkered Magazine)

I've downloaded the trial version from the website www.shotmiser.com and installed it on a device I already own which happens to be the same device that the software is bundled with on the website.

The trial version allows you to demo carnoustie, first 9 holes. Set in manual mode so GPS off as I'm not on the course I've gone through the front nine holes as if I were playing on the course. The maps are great and it certainly seems to provide the golfer with a lot more info than many of the other products out there(sky caddie - caddie aid)

It's very intuative to use, zooms and rotates to your current possition and gives you distances from any point on the course. Unlike other products out there that simply give you distances to set points. The new release is also to include a player score card for every course downloaded and fills that out as you play your round automatically and also provides stats for your game. I'm very impressed so far.

Has anyone out there used this devise out on a course??
I intend to purchase the software but thought I'd pose the question to the rest of you.

Mic, if you are a genuine poster then sorry, (that said, I wasn't that rude, I can do worse).

However, most posters on forums don't go to quite the lengths which you have gone to, they just ask a simple question, along the lines of 'anyone used this?' and post a link.

You seem to have gone to a bit of trouble posting this, and that, in previous cases has been a bit fishy.

I am a genuine poster and haven't used the forum before bit of a newbie to it all.

I just wanted to give a good account of my experience and see if anyone out there had had the same.

I thought giving a bit of detail about what I was talking about might be welcomed.

Doing what you suggest would take less effort I suppose. Thanks for the tip :)

***I just put a call in to these guys and they told me that the Shotmiser is being used in the Dunhill Championship event this week. Pro's are allowed to use it during their warm up rounds. They are also doing a offer of a free St Andrews book worth £25 when you purchase either software only or device. Voucher is at www.optimizegolf.com. I think I will go for it and purchase the software only as I have a device from Snooper. Will post in the future how I get on, hopefully drop a few point on my handicap :).***

Since I don't have a snooper device (I am a garmin user, and they don't do golf) it isn't really me.

Looking at their site, I don't like the idea of paying £5 per course download, as this could get expensive. Skycaddie is similar price to buy (from scratch), and £30 per year to download courses.

Stick around on the forum, we are not that bad once you get to know us.

Thanks for the info. Thats true, your not having to pay £5 each time you want a course when you work on a subscription service.

I suppose you need to weigh that up against how many courses you would actually visit in a year and pay for. Myself I would probably play 3 or 4 courses in a year. Mind I'm off to portugal to play in a fortnight.

You would then way it up against the device features and Shotmiser seems to have a lot more. I like the fact that you get a stats analysis of your round and a score card included with each game.

What to do, what to do!! :)

I'm more of a visual person rather than a numbers so I think having the aid of the course map on the screen along with yardage would benefit me more and I already have a device that it works on :)

Bye for now, need to do some work today rather than look at golf equiptment, I loose hours a week looking at the stuff :)

Had a quick butcher's at the trial version
Doesn't work well at all on my Win Mobile device - keeps locking up. Having to wait 5-10 days for some course downloads also ruins it for me

snooper do several devices one which tries to be caddyaid (that one) & the other which tries to be sky caddie. tbh, the one you are looking at is closer to the mobile user caddyaid which is free to download rather than the PDA version where there is a £10/month optional subscription & you actually get the equivelent of the best course guides available with pinpoint accuracy, the other is like the less detailed sky caddie with the addition of road gps too. personally the skycaddie is a more compact generally usable product than the snooper, though its an option for those who don't own a gps for the car already.

if either the snooper version you have looked at or the caddyaid had the subscription of skycaddie the answer would be far easier & it would come out as caddyaid. but in either situation the snooper seems to come out a poor second in whatever version or option in my book.

would I buy that version of the snooper, not currently. Would I consider it, well of course. But I would consider them all.

I found a lot more info about the product here on the snooper website.

http://www.snooperuk.com/products/g300_snooper_shotmiser/index.html

www.shotmiser.com seems to be the official site though.

Reading in to it more courses can be pre-ordered and ready to download within 5 days.

I guess when you see that they actually supply you with a course map they need to process that on a demand basis. I don't see that as a problem as I would simply order a course when I know I'm going to play it.

I trialed the software on my old mio WM platform worked fine
I already have a snooper for my sat nav, music and video files. This software on it would be an added bonus as I don't want to have to pay lots of £££ for a caddie aid or sky caddie device

Caddyaid looks as though it has a better pic of the hole layout, ie a real pic.

Got to admit, the first post is very suspicious. There are products that some of us on here really like, and yet none of us have gone to such lengths to describe them. Not even Homer and his Skycaddie. :D

Skycaddy 5 for me I'm afraid. I like the way it gives you all the information to carry hazards and gives readings to the front middle and back of the green. You can even move the coursor on the gree to approximately where the flag is and it will give you an updated reading. Also love the distance marked facility for finding out how far you hit it. Particularly useful on the practice ground to see if your really are hitting that 7 iron 150 yards as your mind and ego are telling you
