Oh thats alright then
Was I ?! Thought that was possibly Burnham ?
I'm a member at RND and I get it when some say it looks a bit bland. Personally I believe if you play the course on a summer evening it really comes alive, the low sun casts shadows and you can see the humps and bumps and the subtle slopes of the greens. The 6th tee is simply stunning and so is the 8th.
As far as course tips go, I'm not very good but I will give you a few pointers.
1st - if you're feeling brave take on the right side of the fairway (as close to the ditch as you dare) this really reduces the carry over the ditch on the second shot. Don't go left on the second shot!
2nd if you are fairly straight, aim at the white stone on the left of the fairway and let the wind drift it back. left of the green is the safer miss
3rd The fairway bunkers block everything 250 from the tee (275 carry) the rough is up at the moment I find going left of them is a good play at the mo
4th let rip over the bunker with driver, this will leave a very short chip onto a big green.
5th club up and hit the green !!!!!!!
6th use a club that carries the white stone on the left of the fairway, don't be tempted to hit driver, you will be in the bunkers. Don't miss the green right !
7th - driver is fine, don't go left of the shed in the distance. Air on the left side of the green.
8th - if the wind is up this can be a 9 iron, if it's calm 7 or 6 is good it WILL bounce on
9th don't go left! Aim your second shot to the right of the 9 in the distance, it will feed in. Front bunker that protects the whole green is fine, long not good
10th - laser the ten and pick a club that leaves you 15 short of it, aim left of the ten, there is room ! Don't be short of the green.
11 - it looks like there is no fairway, there is and its massive!! Slightly left of the marker is good with a 210ish yard club. this green is hard to hold at the minute, laser the back of the front bunker and take a club that carrys it, don't go for the flag. The green is surrounded in trouble.
12- let rip with driver!! The second shot always plays shorter than you think, there is no trouble long tho
13 - again let rip with driver. For the second shot get as close to the green as you can. This green is tiny and raised which makes it hard to hit even with a wedge.
14 - is what you see. All about clubbing.
15 - slightly right of the marker post is good. For the second as it's normally into wind you can fly it all the way. Long right is the safest miss
16 - hit the green !
17 - you really need to hit the fairway now as the rough is up. A 3 shoter for most, aim your second over the grass bunker and about 60 yards past it to leave about 100 in. Long is the better miss on this green.
18 - hit driver and aim at the left of the club house with a fade. The burn at the front of the green is not in play, until you take your back swing!!!! don't take the flag on if its near the edge of the green.
As a rule 95% of the trouble is at the front of the greens but, as the course is playing firm and fast soft landing second and third shots are your friend!!!
Enjoy, may see you there !!
I've booked in for the pairs on the Thursday, hopefully the weather is kind to us.
