I'm down in Cornwall next month and was looking on Golf Empire for any opens and these have one on a day that suits.

Anyone played it and what's your thoughts on it?

Keep out of the rushes!

The oldest course (not club) in England and the place is very traditional but not stuffy.

Course is old-fashioned links and should the wind blow then, on some holes, par is irrelevant.

Personally I love it.

It's a good course Stu - I enjoyed playing there last year , some great holes - interesting. When you looking to play as they do a pairs open I think ?

Cheers MM, I love a good old traditional links.

LP, there's an individual open on the Wednesday and a pairs on the Thursday, I could do either.

I could well do the pairs one again - when would you need to know by ?

It's not a proper test of links golf without a bit of wind Homer.

Any local knowledge tips would be great too.

I'm not a fan of RND, has a run of good holes on the front 9 from about the 3rd to the 8th but it goes downhill pretty quickly after that. Worth playing as a one-off though for the history.

Like you I played a comp a few years back while down there on holiday, as said, the clubhouse is definitely worth a mosey round for the history side.

I enjoyed the course, some memorable holes and apparently it can be brutal when the wind blows, I played on a calm day.
Definitely keep out of the rushes, some of the drives look very tight but there's usually more space than you think.

I really like it. As stated, a traditional links (think Southerness). Very friendly club (flip flops allowed). If the winds blowing it's a toughie, if not then it can be overpowered. I still prefer Saunton though. Can't beat a mornings surfing followed by an afternoon golfing.

I agree Gordon. Have played it twice, but find the back nine disappointing.

Watch out for the ropes round the greens, and the sheep.

your just jealous because its another links course better than hayling :D ;)

Thanks for the replies gents, I'm sure it's worth the £25 open GF.

Great J H Taylor memorabilia - I played it in a gale and deluge. At one point we had to hunker down on a green under our brolleys - truly and seriously wild- but fun.
