Well it seems that St Georges day is being well and truly celebrated by the Anglo Saxon golfers on here. So let me be the first to congratulate everyone.
nice to see Jezza say that when he gets in power we will all be having a day off. Not holding me breath on that one.
Nice little quiz on the guardian site if anyone's bothered to copy it, coz am to thick to do it.
Just read Old Gus ( to his pals ) had a Tash. Well gentlemen of a certain caliber do.

PS, just read the duchess of Windsor has dropped out a little lad. Gus Windsor has a certain ring to it. Simply simply lovely.😉

Patron Saints day are all a bit forgettable these days. Not on many people's register.

Nonsense like Mothers Day and Valentines Day seem to have replaced them in the public conciousness, I'll wager that's because retailers and advertisers can't make much money from the Patron Saints.

But Happy St Georges Day nonetheless for those who celebrate it.;)

Well, its English lamb aided down by English ale on the menu tonight...

Nearby Pinner had a St Georges day festival on yesterday...
A day early, but still great to see the day being acknowledged...

its interesting that of the patron Saints of the British Isles, only one was from the country he is PS and only one other actually visited the country he is PS of.

Don't know about you but St Andrew's Day wasn't really celebrated at all by my parents...we knew where we were with 25th Jan - but 30th November - nah...

You could have dressed up in red and white and played in the St George's Day Open at our place last Friday. For £20 you could have had a round of golf with plenty prizes (including NTPs and longest drives), prize for the best dressed St George and steak pie, chips and peas afterwards (or fish and chips.

Mr Rosecott, I am not very happy with you 😍. That could of been a stonking forum day out. Let me know when it is on next year and I wil try and get some of the forum village idiots together for a forum fourball. I already have me eye on a nice dress for Man in Black and Full throttle 👍

We held a similar social nine hole event last Friday and we asked every one to wear red and white. Well attended, and good food and judging by one or two pale complexions, rather a lot of toasting St George. We tend to do this for all the UK Patron saints. All good fun. I wish it could be celebrated more widely but we've lost our national identity in my opinion (probably a whole thread on its own).

You are on, so on, you had better be there, my group on Friday included a 2 handicapper from Brum who dropped 1 shot to par in the round with 37 points, great day

Already looking for a costume 😁👍

It's kind of ironic that St George the patron saint of England was born in Turkey (Cappodocia as it was known back in his day) and died in Israel (Lydda as it was back in his day) and he never visited England, nor was he a knight and he never slayed any dragons.

Looking a little further into google, it's claimed that the true patron saint of England should be Saint Edmund and that we should be celebrating on the 20th November and be raising a flag of a white dragon on a red background.

but he was the patron saint of warriors, hence the reason Edward iii adopted him at PS, during the 100 years war.
