Played a 4 ball better ball today (3/4 handicap) so I was off nine and my partner off 13 9down from 17. We got 37 points and came 15th out of 42 so not too bad and even committed the cardinal error on to scoring together on one hole.

The good news is that I am finally getting something like a swing and game going. OK the chipping is still woeful but tiny steps forward in that department and my ball striking with the irons is very good. I am still missing too many greens but at this time of year (several layers, sodden ground etc) I'm not too fussed and think that will come in time. The one thing that has gone off the boil is my driving. I'm tending to miss a lot right (straight right or slight fades). It had been the core of anything good in my game. Yesterday was a disaster from start to finish so just erasing that from the memory but today I couldn't get in position to attack greens.

I tend to work from wedges up at the range and so think I may be too tired once I start hitting woods. I think as I'm off Wednesday PM I'll hit the practice tee and try and work it through. If I can get it in play more often then the improved striking with the irons will lead to more greens anyway.

Definitely feel a lot happier after today and even though my scoring wasn't great there are definite shoots of recovery. its actually nice to have something positive to say at last as I've felt my game was in a very long and dark tunnel for ages. At least I can see the light now even if the sky is still covered.

Really struggled last week with my swing and started to hook the ball. Got beaten on the 18th in the Winter Knockout when I played awful, and really should have one.

So saturday was a range day for me, different day different player :D 120 balls and probably only hit 7 bad shots, much straighter and feeling happy with myself. :D

Yellow peril comp on sunday (h/c 25) front 9 was great even with playing a provisional ball on the 8th my normal stableford score was 21. Two silly 3 putts on 10 and 11 was poor, but my very slight pushed drive on 12 meant that our yellow ball was lost in one of our lakes. However 7 points on the next 3 holes keeps me happy. Poor second on 16 costs me dear, but a 6 net 4 on our very difficult 17th is a good score. A duff chip on 18 costs me a point, and I come back with only 13 points.
So a total off 34 points on a course that really shouldn't have been open, 10 fairways out of 13, 1 out of 2 sand saves, 4 GIR which is good for a 25h/c, plus 2 missed by a yard or so. So overall delighted with my efforts.

It just feels as though it is within touching distance. If I can conquer the chipping issues and save some shots that way and the driver behaves the rest is beginning to slot into place. A few more range sessions and maybe one more lesson and then I'm ready to attack the start of the season. I have to be honest though but three more 0.1's and off 13 wouldn't be a disaster in terms of a competitive starting point either

Another shot in the bag would be handy for the comps though, might take a bit of pressure off and be a blessing in disguise. Sometimes you've got to go back a bit to go forward
