Handicap Drop in 1year ?

Went from 5.2 to 6.3 in 2012. Decided to knuckle down a bit in 2013, and dropped from 6.3 to 4.4 before finishing the year on 4.6. I'm not sure what target to set for 2014, especially as I've just moved clubs and don't want to set something that won't be achieveable.

Lots of encouraging stories in this thread. After coming back to golf last summer I'm at 16, would love to be low teens or knocking on the door of single figures by this time next year. With a full year at a club and lots of practise I think it's possible.

Started last season off 8.3, finally settled on 5.9 after getting down as far as 5.6. I think I could have broken into Cat1 but ran out of qualifiers at the back end of the season just as form was hitting.
Big issue for me was hitting fairways off the tee, it can be good or really bad. I can also be patchy hitting into greens, which will hopefully be sorted thanks to custom fit irons. Short game is good/very good and putting is coming on nicely.
Hoping to get into the 4 range but would love 3 anything.

I went the other way. Started off an unofficial 8 and went up to 25 joining a club during a nightmare August. 1 supp round got me down to 20 though. Hope to drop back into singles by the end of the forthcoming season.

Went from 8.4 to 5.6.
Purely down to two things, chipping and putting.
Worked hard on them both, especially chipping, trying to chip at the flag instead of
somewhere near.
Also worked on the clockface drill and that has helped.
Hoping to get cat1 next year 4.4 being my goal.

I went from 11.8 to 7.8 - got to 7.6 at one point - just by focussing on chipping. My long game's in decent nick but i'm still not much of a putter. If I had the time this year to focus on that, I'd be trying to get to Cat 1 but realistically, i'll settle for staying where I am for now.

Sundance went from 26 to 13 a couple of years ago (He's a bit stuck now though)

He's not wrong there! I went from 26 to 13 between April 2011 and September 2011 am I'm currently sat at 12.2. I was playing a lot more that year than I have the following 2 but I was still hoping to have had another 2 or 3 shots off by now. Fact is the game gets a lot harder when you have fewer shots to play with (stating the obvious a bit here) but what I'm trying to say is that its harder to recover lost shots in a round. Not setting myself any goals this year and just going to try enjoy it instead.

Just having a cup of tea at work, and looking at ,my handicap over the last year ? what would be expect to drop/gain in a calender year with there handicap?

I have managed to go from 16.7 to 10.9 , i am happy with that and hopefully get better over the summer.

How has your handicap been over the last calender year?

Call me cynical but that kind of handicap drop might suggest that, if the player has been around and is experienced, the starting point was not completely realistic.

I havn't got one yet, but been told I'm about 23/24. So if that's the case, I'll target 19. Not brilliant but at least I'd be heading the right way.

Started season (me first full in as a member) off 28 and the big breakthrough for me was playing with me bro for the first time at captains day and bloody winning it with 42 points and blobbing one hole. I went round in 93. I was buzzing, but since then it's gone tits up big style. Ave had a couple of decent rounds since but my handicap has gone from 28- 22.4-23.6 =24. Am proper gutted coz ah thought I would kick on from captains day and it's not happened.

bottom line is me course/hole management is crap..

Dropped 12 shots in the past two seasons. If I actually practised and got my average putts below 39 I could potentially reach single figures. Anything lower than 8 or 9 and I wouldn't be able to maintain it as I don't put the practice in.
