Hi all

I've just moved home and my train commute alone is 1hr 45mins.....so I'm looking for things to do on the move.

I'm blitzing through films on Amazon prime and Sky go, so I'm wondering about a handheld console.

Does anyone have/use one? I'm looking for some real life reviews with any pitfalls etc

Cheers

Adam

I use a Nintendo Switch. As far as the console itself goes, it is great. Solid bit of kit, good screen, good controller, just works well. Also useful as it pops into a TV doc and can be used as a home console.

Downside, you have to like Nintendo games. There are some great ones already, Marion Odyssey, Mario Kart, Splatoon, Zelda etc but Nintendo do not get much 3rd party support and so you have to like the staple stuff the Nintendo offer. Not going to get Call of Duty etc on it (that said, there is a version of Doom available now).

So, great console that ticks all the boxes but not cheap and you have to like Nintendo games.

personally, i would look at an ipad mini. You can watch TV, netflix and play some pretty decent games (or even work, god forbid!). best of both worlds!

thats the thing....work have given me a laptop, I've got a Kindle fire HD for all my film needs.....so really a games console is the only thing outstanding!

You not fancy a project? I'm sure there's some hand held consoles (Sony PSP is one I think) you can hack the living crap out of and turn it into a gaming emulator. I looked into it but discovered I could do the same with my Raspberry Pi, it has lots of the old consoles on it and all the games you can shake a stick at.

ok, there's a load of stuff I dont know about.... so you mean I could buy another console and essentially break it so it runs old school games?

If you mean break as in crack then yes :D, you buy an old handheld console (there may be Android ones as well on Ebay), install software and then add emulators and game roms.
There's are website and forums which have guides how to do it.

Another option is to get something for a phone or tablet which adds gamepad buttons and sticks, therefore making some games better and easier.

Google iPad or iPhone gamepad and you get all the options.
