Halfway Huts

Nobody stops at ours. Grab whatever you want and eat it on the move.
I've played at places where you stop and eat and it just feels wrong. I guess it's what you're used to.
I'd feel a bit miffed if someone in front wanted to stop and insisted we waited for them if we weren't stopping.
Think 'miffed' is a bit of an understatement!! 😳
Everyone encouraged to stop for 10mins at our place& most do.... group goes to the tee as others arrive.... little impact round time.... lots other factors apply there really.IMO

I like a good halfway hut, however, nobody can 'insist' you wait whilst 1 group eats if the other wants to play through and not stop, and isn't there something in the rules that states you shouldn't unduly delay others on the course!

Common sense should prevail.

We have one, most people stop for a quick cuppa. If the group behind doesn't want to stop then they play through. It's common sense, why should it become a drama?

I play mostly on a Sunday morning, virtually everybody stops for 10 minutes and if as a group you don't want too then you can play through. We still get round in under 4 hours inc the stop so it doesn't impact too much on the round time.

I would not want to lose the hut as I believe it to be a great asset to the club.

Novelty if you're a visitor, perhaps a bit tedious if you're a member.

Only one I've encountered was Carnoustie, was quite nice but as part of a day out, wouldn't want to make a habit of it, rather keep playing to keep limber.

Are they a service from the club which washes its face financially or a money making venture?

A debate amongst a number of our members is whether the halfway hut is a further contributor to slow rounds above and beyond the endemic slow play.

Some groups spend an eternity on their mid round stop, others fly through picking up what they ordered or don't bother.

The impact does seem to be noticeable at weekends as groups inevitably do not want to let you through though you have no plan to stop you are almost obliged to, or all wait on the next tee.

Midweek when the course is quiet there is no problem and people are more relaxed about letting groups through there.

One new member and his mates now tee off on the 10th to avoid the hut (though tougher 9 to start the round).

He actually wants to set a maximum time limit and is seriously considering not renewing.

Do you see a negative impact at your club ?
i don't see the reason for them.
why can't anyone play golf for four hours without eating in a cafe?
just put something in your bag.
i hate them they just slow every one down.

Hope you had the steak pie. Best pie I have ever had.

Dundonald, phone ahead from a phone on the 9th tee, long par 4. Walk off the green towards 10th tee and your piping hot latte and bacon roll is there for you.

Simple, no hanging about and the pace of play is maintained.
