Where? I hear you say. I was listening to the radio this morning and came across this.

And then found this article.

It transpires that the owners of Highland Spring built a course there, next to Gleneagles about 10 years ago but it is still not open yet.

Apparently they are waiting for the right economic climate before they take it any further. So it is maintained and sits there, unused.

It makes very interesting listening and reading. Especially when you see how little information anyone is willing to divulge about it.

Seems pretty crazy to have spent what they've spent and not try and monetise it in some form.

I get they probably want it to be ultra exclusive like Loch Lomond with holiday homes or lodges for rent / purchase to those who can 'buy in' but surely it's costing a few thousand a month just to mothball.

In reality I don't give it much thought. Almost certainly not somewhere I'd ever be able to play.

My only gripe is that these ultra exclusive courses end up getting rated on top 100 lists and due to the exclusivity there is a clamour to play them where likely if they were normal members clubs they would not have the same profile and would likely not be maintained to the same standard either.

I guess that's marketing... but for me I'd want to see top 100 lists only available to courses that have a certain number of rounds a year open to the public, albeit no doubt some would have big fees for that but at least it becomes an achievable goal, if you want to spend your retirement years travelling the world and playing all the top courses.

It's their ball and they'll do what they want.

It's still getting maintained and you can see it from the A9 and from the Queens course. Will be interesting to see if it ever completes with the global economy!
