It still suffers from being a course made for tourists and not natural. The driving landing area's are huge and I only missed 2 fairways all day and even they were sitting up in the rough like coconuts. The greens and general condition of the course was excellent and would I play it again, oh yes at every oppurtunity. However as a challenge there are far better courses.
I loved Machrihanish and if I had a choice of where to play it would beat Kingsbarns every time. It's natural links golf at it's best and I would never tire of playing there.
Castle Stuart has a lot of the features that I saw today and you can tell that the same designer was involved in both. I think he improved on Kingsbarns with Castle Stuart and took the best bits and ditched the worst bits of his design to make a cracking course.
So all in all Kingsbarns is a lovely day out, great facilities, ultra professional and slick operation with a very good course thrown in as well, but it's not a great golf course and there are better to be had for a lot less money.
Absolutely hissing down in Inverness Saturday, had a game with a friend at Fortrose, not bad there at all, drizzle and when we finished it tipped it down. Had a match against the RAF at Tain, again tipping down in Inverness, got to Tain no rain, quite warm. I was in the first group off at 12, started raining at 18 and tipped it down when we finished. Just got in, in time.
