Within my budget thinking about either a Caddylite Golfplus or a GoPlanet Mars 100.

Would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has had either of the above.

Also do you have to pay an annual fee to use them ?

I would probably only put a max of 4 courses on this do you get any free when you buy ? or how much to put a course on (if you dont get any free with initial purchase)

apologies in advance for so many questions..

Have a look at the Snooper S280 - it's not the prettiest but works very well - around £170 on Amazon and probably cheaper elsewhere - lifetime free course downloads.

I purchased a mars100 this week through American golf, no subscription fee and it come with a 10 course download voucher very nice simple little unit for 130 quid, easy to set up. Just takes a couple of hours four your credits to be activated to yout account. I'm chuffed with it.

goplanet mars looks just the job, I am using golfshot on my phone but cant use it in comps but after researching all gps units my course isnt on any :(

check the courses you want are available 1st is my tip of the day

definetely agree with gibbo, i almost purchased a callaway Upro, but after checking their data base found my 4 locals all not listed.

Ive just finished setting the Mars100 up, and to be honest it was easy.

Charge it for 5 hours.
Install Software
Set up a user account and register serial number
Email support to redeem course vouchure.

This all took about 15 mins other than the charging, the only hold up was waiting for china/hongkong to register the vouchure which was done overnight. I had the email on my phone this morning and all done. The only negative i see is the courses download into a downloads file in form of a code, for example 2895753705802058.gof you have to copy them from the downloads folder and paste into the Goplanet/mars100 file in the C:drive. and job done. I wish they names the download for each course, as you could effectively download the same course twice. Because ive only uploaded 4 at this moment in time, ive started a log with the code and then which course it is, the unit will hold 80 courses, and the software will store up to 140 i think.

What i will do is use the 10 as a try out, and once done pay one years gold/pro membership for unlimited downloads, and download all the courses im likely to play in 1 hit, this works our $25.00/£16.00, If i download the last 30 courses ive paid it works out just over 50p per course. - job done.

Hi,

I have had the caddylite for a couple of years now and have had no problems with it.

What I like is that customer service is great, the numbers on the screen are big , so if your blind as a bat you can still see them very easily.

Compared to the sky caddie, the distances were the same give or take 1 yard.

At the moment they do a deal that a years membership for unlimited downloads is £20.

If you want something that gives you more distances to hazzards and more detail then the sky caddie is the way to go.

Cheers

Have you considered rewarding the person who recommended them to you? :D

What put me off Caddylite was the cost of the course downloads. The subscription sounds like a good deal but not sure that it was available when I was looking. At that time you got 2 course downloads free and then it was up to £10 a shot to add any more.

To my mind the ones with the courses pre-loaded are the way forward.

The subscription used to be £40 but for the past year or more they have dropped it to £20. The other I noticed is that when the subscrption runs out you can still use the courses that are downloaded on the GPS, where as some other units will block your access until you subscribe again.

Cheers

Garmin G1 watch.
Can't recommend it enough, admittedly all it does is provide the front/middle/back, but it's ridiculously quick to use..just stare at your wrist, comes loaded with 5000 courses with no subscriptions and quarterly updates for free.

Yeah, played twice over the weekend and when I catch one it is sweet as you like. Even when you don't quite hit it right it still goes pretty well :)

The driver's still going sideways mind ;)
