GPS...................battle of the best!

Don't have one and don't plan to however.....

Played at Lytham with a few lads from the forum and Qwerty had the Garmin watch. Seemed absolutely ideal, gave the measurements you need, quick and easy too look and wasn't fiddling around with it.

If I was going to get a measuring gizmo it would be that.

A guy that I play with fairly often has an S1, they really are very good at what they do. Thought long and hard about getting one, you can get them for about £145 at the moment, but I think I want distance to hazards just as much as distance to the pin. Is that ditch/bunker/lake within reach of a 4H, or do I need something shorter/longer to carry/lay up?

Have got the sg2.5 and no plans, or need, to change. But if I was going to get new kit, I'd only be looking at those which are based on "ground-mapped" data. ie those where someone has been out to map the course physically and not done it off maps on the pc. I know skycaddie do - haven't done the research as to which others do.

I was going to get the garmin g5 from GD in the sale but they sold out straight away so thought I'd splash out on the Golfbuddy world platinum, glad I did really because its great, the charger for it's like a phone charger so you don't have to mess about with AA batteries too.

Ive got the Garmin G5, but i got it for a bargain off ebay - £230 brand new. I think it depends on how many new courses you play in a year, if you have to pay for some extra downloads it can possibly be an extra few bob a yea, with some of the others. With the garmin, it's all free.

But is it any good when you do use it?

If it is sunny it is really difficult to see the screen. Also it takes time to show the correct yardage and doesn't automatically move from one hole to the next. Personally I would get a Garmin watch as it is so much easier to use, although it will not give you distances to hazards etc.
