Sure there has been several posts on this before .. but any recommendations for an Android App for a HTC phone.. have been looking at GPS and rangefinders but can't convince myself that I will use it regularly enough..

i've just purchased a htc phone so i'll be interested in this aswell.i've not got the hang of it yet and i can see it being a long road ahead.

only thing concerning me about gps is in medal play.i know it's not ok to use them because of the oppertunity to access wind information etc but i'm sure i read that they would be ok as of this year......or did i just make that up?

I haven't heard about that, as far as I have been told, you can use your phone as a phone only plus use the R&A app for rules but can't use it as a DMD. It's a pity as the freecaddie one is excellent as a freebie.

You made it up :)

Personally, I don't my phone out in the elements, they have enough excuses to not honour warranties these days without them having water damage as well .... And I know that even one drop can ause the signs they look for.

Maybe wrong. But I thought it was only the i-phone that was band as it had a compass ap on it? I sometimes use "SkyDroid" does all I need. To be honest I find them more trouble than they are worth. Spent years without one, so dont see the need really.

when i say gps i was meaning gps on the phone and i'm sure some clubs had it up on their notice boards but if it's only the iphone because of the compass then thats good.

I wrap my galaxy tab in cling-film, works a treat. Only for use on a course i'm playing for the first time so I know what hazards are out there.

The totally ludicrous compass rule

On a sunny day I can determine the cardinal points of the compass using an analogue wrist watch for god's sake. What advantage does it give me? None

Here we go again ............................

Yawnnnnnnn.

It must be at least 4 days since the last rant about this

i downloaded "nRange Golf GPS" on my blackberry (I would assume it will be on Droid etc too). there really was not much choice for BB, bu tthis one is free to use (for a limited number of courses) and seems to be quite accurate!! i am never going to be a full on GPS user, but we played a new course so thought it may be useful. One thing i found is that it killed the battery!!!! WHile it is useful, i wont be using it at any of my local courses.

where do you's all buy/download the apps?do you do it on the phone or on the laptop/pc then put it across to the phone....:mmm:

the relevant platform store via the phone, whether it be iTunes/ Android Market/ Blackberry. The two I mentioned further up the thread are freebies.
