Gotta love those driveable par 4s

we ve a 260 yard par 4...small burn runs up middle of fairway and round back of green...usually just take fairway off tee over right hand side of burn then lob wedge back over to green for birdie/par chance...if u try and drive it a nice draw is required.. too risky for me...

We have a 270 yd dogleg left (uphill) par 4, but if you go for the green you are playing over an out of bounds area. About 250 to clear the OOB but if you pull it slightly left it's tee it up again.
Still it is the hole that I have parred the second most often at my track.

We have a 270 par 4 up hill and a slight dogleg to the right, you cant see the green when teeing off and OOB all the way to the right, can be an easy hole and I have driven it once and had a 10 ft putt for eagle but normally I take a 6 iron and then a wedge in, depending how the tee box is set.

Went for it once and hit it so far into the trees right thought it was a gonner, hit a provisonal then found my first ball laying in the middle of the fairway at the top of the hill, that was some lucky shot.

300yds up hill is our shortest - reachable from the yellows but the bank infront of the green prevents most of us bigger hitters in the club from reaching. Although a 1 handicapper did get on, and holed it for an Albert Ross.

I would of thought that unless it's very steep up hill @ 249yds your 16th should be a par 3?

Is it a dog leg? Dog legs make for tricky par 3s.

Nope, its straight up. It's over a dip, but tee is same level as green give or take. Not really sure why its not a par 3. There's probably some reason. It is a muni, maybe they didn't want a hole that a lot of the players wouldn't be able to reach. Who knows.

Theres 5 par 4s on my course where if you look at the yardage are driveable. The thing is they are all protected by a lot of danger and it takes a fantastic shot with good shape to get it on them. You will be rewarded if you hit a cracker but if you miss getting a par can prove difficult.

Our shortest is a 254 yard par 4 but theres a tree in front of the green which is absolutley massive and it takes a very good shot to get it around it or over it onto the green. Bunkers and a raised green cause problems if you go for it and miss. One of them holes where a lot of people come unstuck going for it because it seems easy :fore:

I love a driveable par 4, but think that more than 2 on a course is a design weakness, regardless of risk/reward element.

The course I am applying to join doesn't have any :( The shortes hole is 343 and it also sets up much better for 3 wood rather than driver, and pretty much always plays in to the wind, making it play longer than the yardage. I can't see me driving any more greens for a while.

I played at Glencorse last week. First hole is 200 yards, par 4 (for ladies); I had to ask the pro what the catch was - there's a burn that wasn't visible from the tee. I guess the carry is too much for most to make it a par 3 (it is for the guys). I hit it inside ten feet, missed the eagle putt but tapped in for birdie....

..... my round went downhill from there!

My local course has 3 shortish par 4s
2 around the 300 yard mark and another about the 270

For me the 300s ill drive 60, 50 yars short and pitch on
the 270 ill get pretty close and its a chip
