Just got back from having 9 holes at my place. Played 18 yesterday morning with a few mates, lost 3 balls on one hole and generally played terribly.

This afternoon, went out about half 4 with a 2 ball in front and a 2 ball in front of them. No one was behind me so instead of trying to keep pace and get round 18, I dropped a couple of extra balls when I got around the greens and had some chipping practice whilst waiting for the next hole to clear. Also played 3 balls on the par 3s.

The result was positive, generally getting up and down and ended up going 6 over through 9 holes with my "proper" ball which I always hit first on every shot. Was particularly consistent with my long irons and off the tee either, so it was nice to be able to keep the scores down even when out of position.

All that said, I doubt it will last! :D

As an aside, although it was still a bit damp, the rain we had last week has done the course no end of good. Greens are running well and the fairways are starting to become less patchy. Best move I ever made.

definitely the best practice opportunity on the course.

tee shots, and even approach shots, are really about pressure - as are 3ft putts! you are better off on the range.

chips and pitches, including experementation with rescue clubs etc, will pay the biggest dividends long term. the removal of pressure will enable you to perform well, and build a positive feedback loop overall. don't hold back - really focus on sinking these shots!

Aztecs thats what ive been doing last couple weeks...

Not been able to get out much(due to diy:angry:)but gone to the course around 5ish when its quiet and done 9 holes.

Done alot more practising around the greens by putting 6 balls down and practised with diff clubs pw,9+8 iron and seeing the results from pitching with little roll to pitching with roll, hopefully can carry it into a comp and save a few shots also...

So yeh definately way to go for me,rather than rush 18,i'll spend 2 half hours or so doing 9 with some good quality practice to boot;)
