Hi I was in my local pro shop yesterday and stumbled upon two Titleist 906 F4 woods (15.5' and 18.5') for £60 each.

After trying them out today I feel I hit them quite well but my query is, as a high handicapper, will I be able to hit these clubs consistently? Has anyone out there got these clubs?

They are in very good nick so is £120 for the pair a good deal?

Thanks in advance.

I guess it has a lot to do with the shafts and your game. If they are stiff and you have a relatively slow swing speed you may not get maximum benefit whilst if you are quick and they are regular they may be too whippy. I think the heads are fine for a higher handicapper but it comes down to the engine room (shaft) and the captain.

Thanks for the reply. The shafts are V2 regulars :) and I am a junior so have a relatively slow swing speed. Recently I have been playing very well and just won my local club's junior open (the winnings of which are goin towards these clubs!) :D

Anyone got these clubs? ;)

If I remember correctly TonyN has the 3 wood but not with your shaft - he's got the GD YS-6 thingamywhatsit!!

So not much help I'm afraid....

I had the Titleist 906 F4 18* and though a beautiful club is deffo for cat 1 & 2 players, its very unforgiving and I traded it in. Golfbidder offered £80 when nearly new but you might want to go on EBay and click on completed listings on the left hand side to see what they go for which is always handy.

Pm sent Adam. Don't let handicap put you off. They are unforgiving but if your a good ball striker ( I mean 9/10 out the middle) then these will be fine as long as shafts suit.

Adamk15,

V2 shafts are renound for being on the firmer side of Regular for regular shafts. This could be a good thing if you intend to keep the woods for a while, as your swing speed will get quicker over time, though at the minute maybe a little on the firm side for you. But unless you can try the woods out you wont know. The only way to slake your curiosity is to try them out with the guidence of your pro, especially if you can A/B them with some other woods.

Remember, you will be trying something out this does not mean you should feel obliged to buy them or anything else that day. Ask yourself what you want from the clubs.

Oh & on the face of it they seem a reasonable deal. Do remember they are old models & this means you can always negotiate an even better deal, as your pro us unlikely to want to hold onto these for ever. I think I'd be offering a tonne for a pair like this rather than a tonnetwenty, if they are new old stock. If they are second hand it might be a different figure I'd be thinking of.

Thanks for all the help.

Firstly I feel my ball striking is improving all the time so maybe this is a better option than buying poorer clubs and then having to upgrade again in the near future maybe?

I tried them out today over 10 holes and if I remember correctly I hit 6 shots with the 5 wood - 4 good strikes, 1 I skied (I think this was due to me being used to teeing the ball too high as the Titleists have a smaller face than my Ben Sayers) and I topped one from the fairway.

I hit the 3 wood 4 times with one exceptional strike leaving me 10 feet from the hole, 2 solid ones and one bad.

This ratio of good to bad strikes is very good for me (just as good as my Ben Sayers I reckon) and I noticed that they added about 20-30 yds more to my normal shots.

Bit uneasy about bartering with the pro (he is about 30 years to my senior) but I'll try and say something like "is it 120 for the both then?" Haha!

I think I'll try them out once more on the range and if it goes well just go for it!
