If you want a muni then Heaton Park is a cracker. A full comp course not easy. Plus during the week you can just turn up and play. Its not more than £20 a round most likely cheaper (not played it for a while so not sure).
Most of the private clubs, will be about £30-£40 per round. But most will have offers on during the week.
My place North Manchester is £36 in the week summer time. " 2 For 1 offer on Mondays".
Take a look at Bolton old links Chris. I think in that price bracket your looking at its as good as it gets in the North west.
Others to look at would be, Manchester(hopwood), Pleasington- Tough test, Bolton- Posh Moorland track, Fleetwood- Bargain links, Preston- nice Parkland. North Manchester, and Ormskirk. Most of the south Manchester courses are ok but a bit flat and similar for my liking.
Not played too many as am new to golf (well 2nd time around) Public courses I have played Pennington is awful, Boysnope near Irlam is a good one for beginners but a bit dull, Heaton Park is Challenging. As for private ones I think my home club Ellesmere is a decent course its £30 but half price with a member. Saddleworth near oldham is interesting, but very hilly. Palyed at Blackley today, it wasn't bad but could do with being in better condition, the greens were very bumpy and some of the fiarways were rather muddy in places.
No it's done at Bolton golf club Known locally as Lostock.
It's the Where the North West PGA HQ is. It's a good course, Well worth a trip, Not as much of a test as old links in my opinion though.
Recently I enjoyed Stand Gc (near Whitefield). Also Stamford which is near Oldham. Both were reasonably hilly, but good. We played Stamford in an open for £6 each, although you'll need a congu handicap.
