Golf v Family

When I started playing first time round I worked shifts and had no kids so while HID was at work I got loads of free time and played in the week but not weekends.

Moved jobs and back onto days and the kids came along - it just didn't work out for many years so took a break.

My lad showed an interest a couple of years back after a school outing trying out loads of sports (thank you school) and that's what really got me back into it. Both my 2 kids are teens now and don't need / want me around as much so it has gone full circle and I have more free time - have an understanding with HID that I will try and fit it in when she is working but other than that its no problem.

Don't have kids, so don't have that issue. HID works every other weekend and when she's off, I just play early as she is not a morning person. By the time I get back, she's just about bearable! :D Normally manage to play twice a week as long as I'm not on call.

We both play, sometimes both on the same day with a child swap in the car park. Our son is quite well known at the club!

The sacrifice is having dedicated family time, we both have time alone with him, but due to my husband working shifts we rarely have a whole day all together.

There's a good chance we won't have any more kids, one of the reasons being we are too selfish and have now got used to having a bit of freedom back.

Interesting as this is the discussion my wife and I are having now! Now our girl doesn't need round the clock care and is at a really enjoyable age it's difficult to think about going back to having another baby.

I'm 99% sure we will but, because we've left it a bit longer, it does make you think about it a bit more.

Struggling at the moment boys with a job where i don't get home till 8, three children 10,9 and 6 and a wife who works some Saturdays - combined with kiddies football, rugby, horses (don't ask) etc...

Think my progress or lack of at the moment is in direct connection to this. :(

The golfing light at the end of the tunnel is that my 10 year old has just joined the Junior Academy at the local golf club - so may be able to combine family time and golf into one! :)

Re: : Golf v Family

Im similar to a few on here....I have a 3 year old boy and an 8 year old girl....
My little fellow is clean nuts on golf....Which for me is great because i can take him out of his mothers hair and up to the club with me for some practice....

My little one is starting to show an interest in the game also and i think this is great as where i live the road that i grew up on has just got busier and busier so its hard to let her out there to play....

I also dont drink but my other half does so she has her night out with the girls and i have my days golf at the weekends ......One big happy family.. :D :D

Re: : Golf v Family

I'm very lucky. My wife understands happy hubby equals happy home.

I tend to play once in the week (I work shifts) and if I'm not working on a Saturday then my wife knows I will play. I always get an early tee so am generally home by 1.30ish.

I have an 8 year old who plays football Saturday morning, and a 5 year old girl. I love them to pieces but cannot live in their pockets as too much family time can tend to cause friction.

It's all about striking a balance and not taking the p*ss.
