I'm after a sturdy travel bag for my trip to Oman in Jan - I am a fussy sod, but be appreciative of any options, or tips as to decent ones, or even offers you may have come across.
Thanks.
Thanks.
If you want one that folds down small and is easily stored in hotel rooms and at home, the Sun Mountain Kube is unbeatable. Offered enough protection when I traveled (got one on of those arm extenders too though).
If you want full on protection and don't care about bulky, then thr Big Max i-guard or the Longridge hard cases are very good.
I do love my Kube. Best travel bag I've had. And the missus loves that it goes into a cupboard really easily! Win win!
No.Can I borrow it in Jan for a week please
Could I also ask - I’ve only 30kg plus 7kg, so hoping to get everything golf in there, leaving the hand baggage for non-golf clothing. Doable?
No.
You may struggle to get loads in it, so how many shorts, shirts, etc are you stuffing in there? And do you care if they're crushed?!
If your carry bag can take the tops and shorts (although 4 shorts is excessive for me!), the pants and socks will stuff in the golf shoes, the toiletries need to go in a plastic bag in case of leaks, but you'll get that in the Kube no bother. Some stuff can pad out the top of the bag, along with a couple of golf towels maybe but they'd need laundered when you get there.
Good luck and enjoy the trip, mate. It’s a pro am so need to look the partand has to be an outfit a day!
I think it’ll be a case of utilising the golf bag apparel bag pockets as much as possible and packing well.
Thanks for all the advice!
Got the macgreggor XL from hotgolf and love it. Recent stag do to Portugal it took 4 sets of golf gear, 4 sets of evening close + toiletries etc with easy. Plenty of padding and folds down very small.
I’d love a hard shell case but with one trip a year abroad, it doesn’t warrant the investment.
The only thing with hard shell cases is they don’t fit in some hire cars.![]()
Buy an old fashioned mop the string type .I've a large roll of bubblewrap I'm going to put my trust in and go soft case - my thought process is there's enough rigidity so nothing will snap in half, so the heads are the weak point and with those removed and padded out, it should be ok even with the roughest handling.
I have an opportunity to go for the Ogio Alpha for just £100, in black or one with banana's all over it - not bargain hunting as such, but at this price, it's tempting - anyone have one?
Buy an old fashioned mop the string type .
Cut to length about 2” longer than the longest club .
This takes the hit if it gets thrown about.
I take the heads off all woods. Put them back in the headcovers and in the pockets.
Turn the shafts upside down so grips at the top.
Use masking tape to tape them together for strength.
I then used waterproofs and towel to wrap the heads of the irons and shafts up.
Mop head in last
I used foam cut out to go around the shafts once !
Was stopped in Manchester airport as apparently it looks like explosives in an x Ray machine.
They made me empty my whole bag and even had a special board to bounce the balls on ( I kid you not )
So no foam.
Not sure about bubble wrap.
I put my irons in upside down so the weight is at the bottom - less weight on the arm when rolling it and stands up better.I'll get one of those poles you can buy specifically for this purpose and removing wood heads.
Zip tie irons in threes, with headcovers on and a little bubblewrap, got you on the upside down shafts and again securing together.
Sweating over it already, but I've booked direct, so only drama there and back.
There not worth it imo.I'll get one of those poles you can buy specifically for this purpose and removing wood heads.
