I think that level5's hit it on the head. You do need to work at the drills after the lesson to bed them in and if you would rather be playing it can be difficult to trust the swing. You start spraying it on the course and then try and fix things that weren't broken.

Its good to see a lot of positive feedback from those taking lessons. Looks like a lot of low scores from the forum this summer

I must be naturally lucky when it comes to lessons. I've never paid for one! Got a free 1/2 hour swing-check with the pro when I joined the club in '93 and have never had one since.

To me, all the instruction that I've heard or read seems like all the financial gobbledegook thats flying around - I just get a hazy mist in front of my eyes and it goes "whoosh" over my head.

That said, in my early days as a golfer I read all the magazine instruction pieces so I knew what to do. Whether I could do it is a different matter!

When I hit a bad shot I seem to be able to think to myself " Oh right, I've just done that - next time I'll do this" and it seems to work.

Lucky I guess..................

Just had my 2nd lesson on my dreaded short game, which my Pro has given me a few drills to concentrate on for next week. i must admit my short game is awful so it was good to attack it.

Chip and runs ,lobs,50+70yd chips with PW+58* and 100yds with PW-7. I had an extra 50 balls to continue my drills with after my lesson aswell which was good. I'm feeling a lot more confident than i was about my short game.

Hopefully be out sunday putting into practice what i've learnt though it will take a few practice rounds before i start to see my game improve.

Glad the progress is continuing. I've got a pitching lesson on Sunday so looking forward to an improved short game. The only thing I'd advise when you play is not to get too bogged down in trying to remember what you have been taught and rely on the practice you have put in to make the new swing work. If you get too involved in thinking about everything you will lose your natural timing and everything will become too technique focussed leading to loads of poor shots.

This is so true and something I am guilty of quite regularly! Practice is for the practice ground not the golf course. The trouble is I get worried that unless I am thinking about things during my round I will be grooving bad habits.

Listen to Homer though and ignore what I do!

Thanks for the advice homer hopefully my new swing will be natural on the course too ,but i'm going out there with the mind set that if a shot doesn't work 1st time i will continue to try shots and not slide back to my old ways.

It maybe a case of 1step backwards 2 step forwards but i'm really happy with how the lessons are going.

Winter golf is the ideal time to try things out. If a shot goes wrong though don't try and over analyse why. Just keep repeating the same swing throughout and check your stats at the end which will give you a better overall picture
