Golf Insurance?

I have asked this before and it has raised its head again in the Attack household. I hit a shot a few weeks ago when someone appeared from another fairway and was hit on the knee with my golf ball. It was not my fault and the guy admitted that, but it could so easy have been worse.

My question is, does anyone have golf insurance that they would recommend? I always worry about insurance, not having it but what happens when you have to claim on it. I don't want insurance from a company who try to worm their way out of paying when something happens.

I have used GolfPlan for several years as they seem to tick all the boxes for me. I have never made a claim though.

Good question, I've been playing for 18 months or so and I don't have insurance I wonder how many golfers are insured? I can see that should I inadvertantly kill some geriatric, slow playing bandit with my srixon 333 that I might be in a spot of trouble so I rearly should do something about it. It's just that the likelyhood of a dead bandit sueing me seems a remote possibility. So will I go straight to golfing hell? Or, like me, are most golfers too tight/lazy to cover their arses. Most golf clubs/courses carry insurance for players on their courses. This is included in your subs/green fees and usually is only basic and will not cover things like personal injury, theft etc.
Better to take out your own in my opinion.

I had a bad experience with Golf Plan after I got my first set of C/F clubs so looked for someone who provided better customer service.

Given that the SGU were pushing this company I thought I'd look and see. It's worked for me so far.

Years ago a member of our club was playing another course. On a hole, he thought the fairway ahead was clear. The hole they were playing was up hill, so this guy drove off, while ball was in flight, one of the guys infront apeared at top of hill. Ball hit him just above his eye. Our member told this story for many years, stating that if he hadn't of had HOUSE insurance with golf included, the guy could have taken him to the cleaners. The guy did claim, but the insurance covered him. Maybe things are different now.
I must look into insurance myself.

I have it because I doubt my house insurance would cover the full cost of replacement clubs if anything happened to them (and I couldn't claim anyway, as then the wife would know what they cost...).

I also have it for peace of mind in case I damage someone or their property (our car park is in slicing range of one the tees for instance).

When you can be as wayward as I am, I'd be stupid not to have it!

I use Golf Care as the cover suits my needs, but luckily I've never had to claim.

I have "free" golf insurance with Caddysure through the SFG (Single Figure Golfer) tour card. The card is £69 and you also get a dozen Srixon Z stars for free as well as 3 free issues of Golf International magazine.

Pretty good value especially if you want to play in any of the SFG tour events.

I use Golfcare and would not step onto a golfcourse without insurance.

£30 a year is cheap as chips.....worth every penny and peace of mind.

I've used the same firm as DCB before and although I never had to claim they seemed pretty reasonable. It's been said before but needs reiterating, take pictures of all your gear. It makes it much easier should the worse happen if you can prove you had a set of MP63's, I15's etc and not old Donnays.

From a liability perspective it is essential in this day and age to get some sort of cover in case of accidents and the OP's close shave proves how easily it can happen

What was your bad experience? This was one of the reasons I posted, insurance is all easy to pay for, it is when it is time to make a claim that you have to know you have made the right choice.

not sure if it is true that most clubs carry insurance other than third party liability, so if you clobber someone then they would sue you.

I'm covered by the outfit whose leaflets come with GM, but I'm not overly impressed by any of them; when I was trying to find out who to use the paucity of info on all of their sites was shocking. so whether I'm with the best I'll find out when I need them.

still think that in 2 - 3 years golf insurance will be compulsory, hard hats within 5.
