I have been playing for roughly a year now and I am planning to play a lot more as I have got the golfing bug....

With this months magazine their was an insert for golf insurance. Is this really worth having? My clubs are not really worth a lot as they are for beginners and that insurance only seems to cover you while on the course. I have not herd of anyone being hit or have ever herd anyone mention that they have been hit before. I can see how that could happen thou.

The freebies seem to be worth more than the cover costs. Which is always a bouns...

So is this golf insurance really worth it?

All insurances are a waste of money until you need them, but as the saying goes"its better to have it and not need it,than to need it and not have it"i hope i never need mine unless its for the bar bill for a hole in one.

I dunno, I bought mine for £49. Not a great stretch.
Even though My clubs are worth > £1000 I mainly bought it for another reason, that of injury to another person.
The amount I shout 'fore' I know one day I may just hit someone, and I'd rather be insured for that as that's where a 'BIG' bill could come from.

What he said.

Isn't there a difference between golf injury and golf property insurances? Is what you're asking about the former, the latter, or both?

If property, then you may find your household insurance covers your golf kit at the course, etc. If injury, membership of a club may cover it, or possibly any personal, health or travel insurance you have. (It's worth a check).

I haven't played much in recent years, but when I was playing regularly I managed to get free £1M golf liability insurance via a competing magazine's offer. I never renewed it, as I (still) don't know if we've become American enough for that kind of litigation coverage to be worthwhile.

I'm in the 'got for the liability issues' camp though I also wanted to cover the golf equipment separately - I think of it as being a 'higher risk'.
Unfortunately I now have reservations about it's effectiveness as property insurance as I have heard that they have a tendency to counter-claim against your household insurance.

I made sure my golf policy specifically covered my clubs stored in my locker overnight (my home contents didn't) and for accidental damage at the club and in transit to and from any golf club in the UK. More importantly though its for that one shot that we all fear that does actually cause someone a serious injury and to a lesser extent serious damage to property.
