Dear All,

I was just wondering if any posters have any advice when it comes to playing golf in the Caribbean. If you have any good reviews, bad experiences, stories etc etc

I am off in the direction off Grenada and Barbados, so any info/help when it comes to a round of golf will be greatly appreaciated...

regards

I have played in Barbados. There are not a lot of courses there, but some very good ones. Bring plenty of money, though. Barbados is not a cheap option generally, and particularly so for good golf.

The top course when I was there was The Green Monkey, at Sandy Lane. Technically, you have to be a guest at Sandy Lane to play, but they do offer some outside play at a premium rate. If you have to ask the price .....

It is a magnificent course, with some wonderful holes set in an old stone quarry. It also has quite severe bermuda greens, and the effect of the grain is more than I have ever seen in many trips to the US.

The second course at Sandy Lane is The Country Club. This is a pleasant if somewhat unexciting resort style course. Not cheap, but a decent balance between a reasonable test and fun holiday golf.

A better second choice is Royal Westmoreland, a hillyish course set in a holiday community. It has held a Seniors event and is a pleasant and adequately challenging course. Not cheap again, but cheaper than either Sandy Lane course.

There is a new course opened since I was there, Apes Hill. This one looks very good, and is aimed at the same premium market as the others above. No idea whether outside play is available.

I worked in Grenada 3 years ago, only one course at that time 9 hole and it was terrible

Barbados is the place for golf

I've only ever played in Jamaica at The White Witch in Montego Bay and the Sandals Golf Resort in Ocho Rios.

Both are up there with two of the best courses I've ever played. And The White Witch is probably the hardest course I've ever played.
