Golf in Florida...

Im in Florida in May and looking to play while there.

Have any of you guys hired clubs or do you always take your own? Im only planning on one or maybe two rounds so is the cost of taking them plus the risk of loss/damage worth it or are the hire clubs of decent standard?

And if anyone is there between 5th and 19th May and fancies a game with a fellow forummer, give me a shout and we will get something sorted:)

Stephen I'm traveling on the same dates as yourself, was going to ask if anyone looking for a game nearer the time, I'll be up for a couple of rounds.

Pity, I'm out on the 21st for 2 weeks, could have been ideal.

Happy days, we will definitely get something sorted.

Have you been before and if so have you played out there?

yes i've played a few decent courses over the years, legends at orange lake, falcons fire, hunters creek the international were pretty good, kissimmee golf club was always a little cheaper but decent.

This will be my 5th trip but never bothered playing before so dont know any of the courses but im definitely up for a game with a fellow forummer or two:)

Going to do a bit of website browsing to see which of the recommended courses i fancy most and we can take it from there.

Is it best to book before going or is there better deals to be got over there?

Also, do you take your own sticks or just hire over there?

I am a regular golfer in orlando but sadly it is expensive to play and as i use a timeshare my family own weeks at we get discounted rates. Don't be fooled into sticking with morning play. I predominantly play at 5 when rates become cheaper and temps lower assuming of course it doesn't interfer with family plans. In fact at this time last year i was payign $20 a round and due to the time of day they were unofficially forgetting the $25 rider fee.

Can agree with many of the recommendations already mentioned but would add Orange Lake which has two courses and is just to the left of animal Kingdom but is reached by the 192 highway. Their Arnold Palmer signature course The Legends is very pretty but not as hard as their cheaper course the reserve. Plenty of reviews around and golf shops like Edwin Watts, Golf galaxy and Golfsmith are great for llocal advice.

A bit gutted you posted this to be honest as this year will be the first in 11 years i won't be going to Orlando for golf. Recession has finally hit my holiday plans. Looking forward to 2013 when i will be going with my then retired old man for some golf.

I would strongly suggest you do take your clubs as yes most airlines now charge but it's a false economy renting once you play more than twice.

I dont normally bother taking my clubs anymore, got kids so buggies and car seats are enough to carry, normally wait until i'm there to book a game. i usually go sept/ oct time when courses are getting work done so looking forward to courses being in prime condition.

Wasnt too keen on taking my clubs anyway so wont bother either.

Do you think its cheaper waiting til you there before organising a game?

You say youre travelling the same dates as me, your not flying from Dublin as well are you?

Flying from Glasgow, never pre booked golf before traveling as it was golf for 1, once we get there i normally decide what we will do and when wife says pool day i go to golf.

We can decide what days for golf before we travel this time, maybe tue each week.

What area are you staying at when you get there, how many traveling?
