Hi all,

My missus is 'Disney' crazy and she had always mentioned that she'd love to do all the Disney stuff (even though she's been a few times before).

My first response was 'not a chance love'. But then I thought....I bet they have some cracking golf courses out there.

Then to my amazement, it turns out that Disney have some cracking golf courses of their own next to their usual Disney resorts.

So I've now agreed to the holiday. We'll do the Disney parks for a few of the days, we'll do the Universal parks and all the other stuff that's over there. And I plan on getting at least 3-4 rounds of golf in.

It also turns out that we're going to get married out there as well with it being so much cheaper than doing over here. I'm 25, she's 24 and if it wasn't for things costing so much over here, then we would have tied the knot by now anyway - so we thought why not?

So I guess I'll be playing golf on my honeymoon? Not many other can say that they were able to get away with that!

Anyways.... I was wondering if anyone else had played on these courses? And if anyone had some advice they would like to give me on travelling with my clubs etc? I think the extra cost will be £25 extra each way with the golf clubs.

I'll get those iron covers to protect help protect the iron heads in transit and I guess I could try and protect the clubs by stuffing the bag full of clothes?

Thanks guys.

Here are the links for the courses, let me know what you think :-)

If you have a decent travel cover, should not be any major problem taking the clubs. You can pack some towels or rain gear around the heads. i wouldn't bother with iron covers.

Disney courses are decent enough - Palm, Magnolia and Osprey Ridge are the best ones. There is a lot of golf in Orlando, much of it very mediocre and/or expensive.

The best other places to play include Orange County National (either course), Champions Gate and Southern Dunes (a bit south).

If you have a lot of time, World Woods (Pine Barrens) is fantastic but is a couple of hours drive from Orlando.

What's Southern Dunes like Ethan? as a bloke at my place has a villa on the course, and I was thinking of going there.

Definitely one of the better courses in the area.

Depends on when you play there. The layout is good, but when I played there they had only just reopened after overseeding (October) and the greens were so wooly it was a complete waste of time trying to putt.

Fair comment, although that problem affects most courses at that time of year.

Celebration is a 'must', it sits in a totally self contained community that apparently was Walt Disney's vision for the future, not a cheap course but well worth a visit imo.

There's many better for less cash.

I could recommend at least a dozen excellent courses in Florida all worth a visit. Magnolia at Disney is its best effort the others ain't worth the money they ask IMO.

I'm in Florida at least once a year and have at least 6 rounds when I'm there and rarely at the same courses.

Top 5

Grande Cypress
Panther Lake at Orange County National
Grande Pines
The Legends
Southern Dunes

Play any of those and you won't be disappointed.

Thank you all for the comments, much appreciated.

I will play the Magnolia course a couple of times and will try and get out to play the Celebration course as well.

Cheers

Definitely recommend Osprey Ridge at Disney ahead of Magnolia. Would agree with the recommendations for Grande Pines & Panther Lake.
Have a great time Good Luck for your future together. Certainly starting on the right footing if you are golfing on your honeymoon. Top Man!

Southern Dunes is described as being more like a links course with dunes down each side of the fairways and less water than on many other courses. Has been a few years since I played it but enjoyed it.
The others I have enjoyed are Falcons Fire and Mystic Dunes.
IMHO great place for a holiday / honeymoon.

Have played magnolia, palm, and lbv numerous times. You won't go far wrong, they are all great courses. I prefer the palm.

That said, I get on for 35 dollars.

Bargain.

I played The Legends and The reserve at Orange Lake last April, both good courses. The Legends is the signature course but the Reserve is equally as good and a bit harder IMHO - plus it's cheaper. From memory the Legends was about £60 and the Reserve £30 but I was staying onsite so not sure how much discount that gave me.

Falcons Fire and Metro West are sister courses and were bought by Marriott last summer so expect major investment, both good tracks but for MW was the best of the 2

Can highly recommend Orange County National (plus they have one of the best driving ranges you'll ever use), and also Champions Gate which is only a short drive from Disney.

A bit further afield in Haines City is Diamondback GC, a good test for any golfer.

But surely if it's your honeymoon you'll be busy with other activities!!

Im in Florida in May and looking to play while there.

Have any of you guys hired clubs or do you always take your own? Im only planning on one or maybe two rounds so is the cost of taking them plus the risk of loss/damage worth it or are the hire clubs of decent standard?

And if anyone is there between 5th and 19th May and fancies a game with a fellow forummer, give me a shout and we will get something sorted:)

Can I add 1 piece of very important advice, regardless of which course you play almost all Florida courses have around 5 sets of tees, play 1 that suits your ability and don't play too long or short for you or you won't enjoy the experience. I played of tees giving just over 6500 with a guy who was adamant he was fine at that and he had a real stinker, he hit driver and 3 wood into the bulk of par 4's as the were all over 400 yds and he wasn't that good a driver of the ball, guy was late fifties and reckoned he was off 12, but I reckon he was at least double that.
