With Woods touted as the first real golf athlete, he's now mid thirties, has a completely knackered knee, that is inoperable, walks on crutches when he's not golfing, addicted to just about every drug (prescription or not), Steroid built, bad back, and gawd knows what else. Golf athlete, yeah right.
Its just a hit it, walk, find it, and hit it again game. Its not about who is fastest, fittest, most flexible, or most athletic. Its about who is most skilful. At his prime Woods won because he was the most skilful (and probably most drug fueled). The message is, if you wanna be good, become idolised, and a billionaire golfer then start popping the pills. Thats the legacy of Woods. I do realise this isnt a thread about him, but any discussions on golf athleticism are now intimately enraveled with the expolits of the great one.
Apologies to OP. If you want to improve your golf take that gym time and use it work on your golf game.
Blimey. That's some fair accusations you're making right there. I have no idea if Woods is/was addicted to painkillers or not, but I'd say it's pretty far fetched to say he was "steroid built" (unless I'm mis-understanding what you mean). He's hardly massive, he's just a black guy. By this I mean, if you took a white guy and a black guy the same size/shape and got them to follow the exact same training plan and diet, the black guy would excel in building more muscle mass. I don't know what it is, but they're just genetically built differently to a white guy or asian guy. The PT's at my gym call it the "black gene" (don't worry, one of them is black, I'm not being racist here!
My point is, for Woods to get to the size he is would not take alot of gym work and eating right.
Woods is a terrible example of a "golf athlete" really, because his swing is/was so aggressive. There's no preventing it doing damage to the body.
