Hi All,

I'm looking for some advice on a good club in Essex for my two children to join.

They are both showing a lot of ability for their ages (5 & 8), but they are a bit young to be playing a full size course, which most of the ones local to me are.

Ideally I want somewhere that will allow them to play in some competitions, or at least where the Juniors get out to play regularly so they can get a handicap and feel part of the club.

At the moment the best course for them to play is the Par 3 at Hobbs Cross (they have both shot under 45 round here), but that's a pay and play and spectators/caddies aren't allowed so when I'm not with them my wife can't really take them....for example after school in the Summer.

We've played Bunsay Downs once with them too, which seemed good but I'm not sure what the Juniors section is like.

I live in Brentwood, so ideally not travelling too far away....30mins max.

Appreciate any advice/help!

Cheers
Matt

Have you considered Chelmsford ? Great Junior/cadet section. Teaching/playing sessions during the school hols.

Hi matt........might be worth trying Brentwood golf club. I know the owner pretty well and they are investing alot of money. Speak to a guy called Russell. I am sure they will look after your young ones.

I was at Hobbs On sunday and there was a women walking round with just a Child who was playing on his own, Dont think its as strict as they say, AS we also see a 5 ball going round

Matt, per Roops message, Chelmsford has a very strong junior section and a lot of coaching for juniors.

I am a member there, and often see the kids playing the course with their parents walking with them etc.

West Essex is another option with a really good junior section, although may be a little too far to travel from Brentwood.

Also West Essex have just got planning permission for academy including a short game area and a 9 hole course. Not too sure when building this will begin though.

My son is a member at North Weald (5/10 minutes from Hobbs Cross) and they have a great junior section. So much so that in an under 12 county match against Surrey at the end of last year 5 of the 12 Essex juniors were from North Weald (proud to say my son was included :))

The club is very junior orientated and there is no restriction on junior tee times or for when they can access the course. My boy and about a dozen others practically live at the club during the summer holidays.

There are lots of mixed matches between the juniors and seniors so they feel very well supported and part of the club. Last year the club captain paid to take all of the juniors to Wentworth for the PGA.

There are many organised golf tuition camps for the younger juniors during half terms etc and lots of junior comps, I think my boy entered around 40 qualifiers last year.

If you want me to PM you the details of the junior organiser then let me know.

Rob.

From Brentwood I would say Chelmsford is a very good suggestion. Braintree turns out some very good juniors as well but might be a bit too far.

Hi All, thanks for your feedback.....I didn't get some of the notifications! so apologies for the delay!

Both the kids have just qualified to play in the US Kids Golf European and World Champs this year in Scotland and Pinehurst....this is going to get expensive!

Don't worry. Think of it as your pension plan when they make the big time :rofl:;)
