Golf ball fitting!

Honestly mate you're better spending you're time practicing rather than worrying if you should use taylormade tp5, z-stars or pro-vs. #wasteoftime

I play off 2 and have played lower and any soft tour ball is good for me, I'm not good enough to notice any difference in flight etc. Sure they make a slightly different noise with the putter and some might grab a little quicker on short pitch shots but it doesn't make a difference to my score lol I have even using the nike rzn tour platinum as they are cheap at 25 a dozen because of nikes withdrawal from the ball market and it is just as good as my usual prov1x

Not done a ball fitting as such but, when having a club fitting the pro asked me what I gamed and advised a low spin ball which I used as it happened.

At the Lakeside Golf Show I went on the Bridgestone stand and trialled an E6 vs a Titleist NXT Tour - amazingly the E6 won and was what I had switched to a while back as such great value for money (got loads at £9.99 a doz Black Friday so should last until they reappear).

Plenty of manufacturers have online tools for fitting - Titleist, Bridgestone etc. and would not pay for it as marginal gains.

The Pro V family are of course suitable for all golfers per their tool, fitting, testing if you have very deep pockets

So many decent quality mid range balls out there to choose from at bargain prices if you watch the offers.

What harm can it do to have a ball fitting? As long as you use the same ball, you will know on average how far you hit each club. This will change if you change your ball. I have tried all types and makes and settled on one ball type that suited my game. I'm not bothered about the price as I always buy them when there is a deal on.

Seriously dude I hit the ball very consistently and unless you're using a 2 piece rock they all go the same distance, I have a practice bag full of used tour balls I hit and there is no discernable distance difference between them. Strike is king!

Cheer I was just wondering as I get a very very high ball flight and a +2 golfer at my home course was watching me tee off and said it might be the ball im using.. he said something about if it doesn't compress enough at impact it will make it go higher than it should.. it's probably just my launch angle but wanted to see what the lads on here thought about ball fitting

You do get different compression golf balls or at least you did in the days of balatas. The impact conditions you present to the ball will dictate ball flight, however if you did learn to compress the ball you would probably achieve a lower more powerful ball flight but not always the case as I compress the ball and even though i have a good powerful flight it's apex is high. If you've ever watched the pros at the open or any other even you will notice how high most of them hit the ball, especially with the driver it's just sent into orbit for maximum carry.

My iron striking is spot on most of the time nice compression nice ball flight. But with the driver it's going that high im lucky if I get 5 yards of roll. I just feel as thing the height I'm getting I have to be losing distance. Think I'm gonna see my pro and see what he thinks

You will only lose distance if it's launching high with high spin unless your launching it at a ridiculous angle. If you tend to hit your driver closer to the top of the clubhead there's a high % chance you have a descending angle of attack which most of the time puts alot of spin on the ball which will result in a loss of distance. You really want to be hitting up with the driver.

I'm afraid that I have to disagree with you. It's just a matter of personal opinion.

I can't tell the difference except when putting for most make and model of golf balls.

The obvious exceptions being budget rocks and th occasional lake ball gone wrong

Often you will find a ball fitting thrown in free with something else.

It's not worth paying for but it is interesting to see the different numbers.

Golf ball fitting usually just focus on the different ranges of a single brand. You can see the difference, if any, between their soft, mid range and premium balls.

The idea that the characteristics of a shot by a handicap golfer are in any way affected by their choice of ball strikes me as straw grasping of the highest order.

Price? Yep, sound/feel off the putter or wedge? Yep. My 30 yard slice..... Not so much

Somehow I just can't get it into my head a golf pro asking 'what ball do you game";)

its not a matter of opinion if he's hit a load of different balls and found them all together. that's a fact.

People spend way to much time worrying about balls thinking it makes a big difference to there game. my playing partner who is off +3 will play with the first ball he pulls from his bag. its all nonsense.

Maybe if he used the same ball all the time he'd be off +4 ;)
