golf and 'cool'

Golf is not cool, but that is part of the appeal. It isn't played by numpties in shell suits, trainers,baseball caps on the wrong way, and fake gold chains hanging form their necks. Oh unless you play at a muni

Strange I play a muni and have never seen anyone with the above, they must be busy robbing your cars at your snobby clubs

It's actually attituides like that which you've highlighted that get golf the superior snobby image in which it is perceived by many.

I grew up playing on a large municiple course and yes you saw all sorts, but, they were all there to play golf.

Your totally correct, I started playing on a Muni ,Caird Park, and saw all sorts ,burnt out cars on the first fairway and a guy sleeping in one of the bunkers from the Friday night.
Now i play at a private club which is full of would be snobs but at the end of the day the guys who spend there money there and in the shop are the normal everyday working guy.
And by the way golf is cool just look at Jesper Parnevik one of the coolest guys around.

I really do think golf is cool, maybe due to the fact it isn't deemed to be a cool thing to do by the idiots watching big brother or the people who see football as the only sport worth playing.

Where else can you wear some of the craziest stuff and not be called gay or have stones thrown at you. Everyone likes to dress up sometimes right?

And who really cares what other people think, especially if they write something like golf off before giving it a good go.

I think Tiger has done a lot to make the youngsters think golf is cool.

They read about all the women he has had and think .... "COOL !!!"

Let's face it, 2 of the coolest guys on the planet - Samuel L Jackson and Alice Cooper - play golf!
So golf has to be cool.

Golf is cool to me!
All it takes with most yougsters is to see what hitting a good shot is all about.
If you go down to the big driving ranges (I'm near the one at the Trafford Centre in Manchester) you get the shell suit brigade swinging themselves off their feet in order to get more distance.
They however seem to stop when a really good player starts pinging drivers over the hill at the back and say things such as "bad" "wicked" "nice" which I think are positive.
Schools should put golf on to the PE schedule (A great game to promote values), and get these trick shot specialist to come down, as everyone thinks they are cool... don't they?

Agree,i remember playing in Nicklaus yellow chequered flaired trousers, jumpers with huge patterns,white shoes with flappy tongues,red bobble hat even in the summer(only way to keep 70's hair out of my eyes )I was known as one of the snappier dressers as well!

Even my woods had huge woolen pom-poms on.

How could anyone say golf was not cool,when players looked like huggy bear.

Fortunately all photographic evidence has long since been destroyed.Still have the same haircut though!!

Oh god i'm getting nostalgic again.
