I'm a 16 year old golfer, the majority of people my age class golf as so call uncool.

Just wondered in your opinions , what could golf do with to make golf a 'cool' sport?

Take it from me lou when i was growing up i thought no other sport was better than football or hurling those friends of yours will be the very ones that will turn to golf maybe in there 30's or 40's to play in which case you'll have a good 15 or 20 year head start on them..... ;)

I'd echo that. I wish I'd started when I was young.

Due to the financial implications and the time it takes to complete a round golf will never be cool to the masses and especially the younger generation but as long as its cool with YOU then thats all that matters pal.

Golf isn't cool but 'Cool' is overrated anyway.
It is far 'cooler' to not conform to the masses following the latest trend and do your own thing.

Tonking a 270 yard drive with a wee draw is pretty cool imo.

I agree with the others. The earlier you start, the better golfer you will be in later years. The top professionals all started in their early teens or even earlier.
Just enjoy your golf.

Not too bother about being 'cool' at my age.

But golf is still considered an elitist sport. The way to make it more attractive to the kids is to get a young, working class teenager ( preferably black and good looking ) out on tour and winning things.

I don't mean Tiger - plenty of money type middle class, more like Dizzee Rascal - single mum with two jobs type working class.

Don't think anyone is coming through the ranks at the moment, tho'

Golf not cool?

What about the tank tops, trousers made from curtains or kilts, White shoes, oakley sunglasses, snobby club houses with pictures of the queen, pink polo tops....

Ahh ... you may have a point. :D :p

Golf is not cool, but that is part of the appeal. It isn't played by numpties in shell suits, trainers, baseball caps on the wrong way, and fake gold chains hanging form their necks. Oh unless you play at a muni ;)

You don't see much of that on Sky.

And i dont think you ever will Dids! :D :D
Still it gave me a small foundation of a swing for the golf....Most lads that play hurling in this country turn out to be pretty good golfers....Fingers crossed ill be one some day  :D

Have you seen the game of hurling played...

I had the same when I was 13-16 yrs old. My so called mates slagged me off for playing golf. There were evenings in the summer time when my Dad would wisk me off for a game of golf while the rest were chasing girls or playing football. Well, let me tell you, I'm having the last laugh now. There are a few of these so called mates who now play golf and would love to play to the same handicap as I do. So whoever said that you have a 20 year start on them was dead right. keep to the golf, you'll have a blast and meet some wonderfull friends.

If you feel it aint "cool" put a jumper on

I actually think that golf could be classed as 'cool'. Look at all the younger celebs, DJs, sportsmen, pop stars etc who are keen golfers.

Admittedly most clubs and the members would never be seen as cool but there are enough people who play the game who are seen as fashionable.

Until recently Woods had done a lot to make the game seem "cool" to a younger audience but in truth it has never really had that image and probably never will. It may well seem snobbish by yourmates at the moment but I guarantee that once they get their own income, get out to work they'll come across golfers and will be bitten by the bug
