Golf has, today, bit me in the ass....after last wednesdays high jinks of shooting 40pts off 14 and finishing 2nd in the midweek stableford, normal service has been resumed and today i came in with 29 points today off my new handicap of 13!!

I had massive hopes of tearing the course apart today and from my opening tee shot on the 1st it was apparent that wasnt going to happen :(

Still, I've qualified for the stableford final in September....best get practising eh?

I'm guessing your title was a bit tongue in cheek, but nobody has any right to expect to play to handicap unless they play well. Your post doesn't read as if you think you played well.

And if you think 29pts is being bitten in the ass you are in for a whole world of disappointment somewhere down the road. ;)

"I had massive hopes of tearing the course apart today and from my opening tee shot on the 1st it was apparent that wasnt going to happen"
2 things strike me with that statement.

1. Big expectations is putting too much pressure on yourself.
2. Thinking a game is going to be bad after a few holes is bad enough, but after 1 shot?

Keep plugging away. You must have the ability to get there, you just have to get used to doing it. :)

Everyone does it fella, I won my first ever competition a few weeks back with 40 points off 18, felt like I played really well, had one blob and left a few points out there with some missed short putts.

I then got cut to 17, my next comp I totalled 23 points. Wasn't happy at all but that's golf, you'll always have a few .1's after a cut.

If you you think 29 is a bad day at the office there will be worse to come! It's hardly a massively off day half a dozen shots over, we all have high hopes and normally this only sets us up for a fall, your handicap is supposed to reflect a better round rather than an average round. Keep believing you can play at this level you've proved it in a comp already.

I know a guy who triple bogied the 1st hole of a 36 hole comp...... came in at the end 1 under and won the comp.

No one plays to their h/cap all the time, else their h/cap would be wrong. Off 13 you can bogey the 1st 8 holes and still have 5 shots to play with to be on h/cap.... dropping a couple more is no big deal, and then you're 15 over? So?

You are lucky that off 13 you have scope to improve that won't require you to be on the practice ground 6hrs/day

I topped my opening drive in the medal last weekend and in the match yesterday (both just cleared the ladies fortunately). On for 2 and net par. I went on to come 2nd in the medal (lost on countback) and was +5 gross after 13 yesterday. One shot doesn't make a round.

Wait until you score 25 in a comp and have gone through the wringer to get that many. Well done for the cut last week but it shouldn't be that different to playing off the previous number. Just go out, relax and do what you were doing. As soon as you think you'll rip it up then you're toast

don't worry about it mate. Last week I played nicely to my handicap in a stableford comp. This week I crumbled like a soggy sandcastle in the medal and nr'd on the 2nd after taking 7 off the tee! I know there is a 9 handicapper in there somewhere, just not yesterday !!!
