Goddamn train wreck holes!!

Just been out playing my track, in what can only be described as less than favourable conditions, and started off brilliant with a birdie on the 1st. A double, a bogey & a par followed and then another birdie on the 5th, again a double, 2 bogeys and a par and I went out in 42 which wasnt too bad.

Started the back 9 with an eagle on a par 4 which I drove the green (305yds par 4), followed by a couple more bogeys & par's and then, on a hole I normally do very well on, I took a goddamn 9 :mad: :mad:

Hit a lovely drive but fluffed my approach into a greenside bunker, the ball landed in someone's footprint, fluffed 2 attempts at getting out and then caught the 3rd attempt flush and flew the green....absolute disaster!!

Came back in 41 though for a round of 83, which at worst should've been a 79 and the first time i'd broke 80 on a proper course as I dont count both times i've done it at Roundhay as thats only really a pitch n putt course ;)

Absolutely gutted! First time i've had a proper train wreck for about 6 rounds.
 
I know the feeling, had a steady round comfortably breaking 90 last week, then shot a 9 on the 18th -happy -I was not!
Why do we keep going back for more? :D
 
he he... i feel your pain. I had one in a medal last week.

2nd hole par 4. Drove well up the left but the ball stopped in the fringe on the left of the fairway so took some roll out of the shot. took my 3 wood out to knock it up the hill to the green only to duff it about 100yds into thick rough still on the left. I then duffed my next shot (going for the green) about 4 ft then for some unknown reason did exactly the same again... when will i ever learn to take my medicine and just knock it out. Oh, after two duffs in the rough! I then knocked out and left my pitch short, then chipped onto the green and putted for a 9!!!!!

It's a long time since i scored a 9 and i was gutted and quite annoyed with myself.

I then parred the next two holes then had to walk in due to extremely heavy rain that flooded the 5th green. At least i didn't need to submit the card with the 9 on it!
 
Here's why we keep coming back......

I shot a net 65 for an overall 3rd place in a competition on Saturday. Was only beaten by a shot. I took a 6 on the par 4 16th, a hole on which I normally make a 4 so I really feel I could and should have won it.. :mad:

I am now officially a cat 3 golfer :D

Can't help mate. By the sounds of it you play at the opposite end of the spectrum to me.
2 birdies, an eagle and then some whoppers?
Chill, take it down a notch or two and learn from experience.
 
Had a few myself in the medal on sunday.
Doubled the second, seventh, tripled the fourth and the ninth, without losing a ball or going OOB to go out in 15 over par--handicap used up---at least i came back in 6 over which included a double on 17.
 
Having finished 6, 6, 6 (double, treble, single bogey) in consecutive competitions I know and feel the pain. My problem especially the second time was I was too conscious of the OB left on 16 and 17 and inevitably hit it straight left both times on both holes.

I think the secret is to forget the problem and focus on the next hole. I think you were unlucky to land in a footprint in the bunker and so you can probably forgive yourself for not getting out first time. I played like a dog for 6 holes recently and then played the last 12 in three over gross without consciously changing anything so it can be done. Put it down to bad luck in the sand and remember how well you hit it on the other holes and keep going. You know there is a really low one in their busting to get out soon

Last time I played a full round there last week I played the back 9 @ 1 over par. 3 weeks ago I played the front 9 @ 2 over par.

To be honest I think the back 9 is easier and I do tend to score better on it, but very soon i'm going to smash 80 to pieces!

And then I will sell my clubs and retire from golf a happy man....actually, no I wont :D
 
Played forest park a few times parmo,my old man used to be a member there.Nice track,quite long and pretty quick greens.My gaffer played it a couple of weeks ago and said it was in good nick-had of lot of rain her in last week or so.
 
Know what you mean about train wreck holes. Was having a reasonable round until the par 3 7th, 200 yard par 3. First shot landed on the green, took a massive kick and was OOB out the back. Came down a club for 3 off the tee which was too short and in the water to the left. Managed to get it down in 3 after that leaving me with an 8 on a par 3. Really annoying as the first tee shot was great and I have never had one kick on like that.
