GOAT 2012 v 2025

Nicklaus most succesful ever, Woods best player ever.

If you don't understand the distinction: for a long time in snooker Stephen Hendry was the most succesful but Ronnie O'Sullivan was the best player ever - now Ronnie owns both crowns. Another example: in Chess for a long time Kasparov was the most succesful but Bobby Fischer was considered the best - until Magnus Carlson came along, broke all the records and is considered the clear GOAT.

If that were true, then Scheffler is now the best player ever.
He might well be! To be clear of your contemporaries in this era seriously takes some doing.

I genuinely don't think Scheffler is very far behind Tiger's skill level. Probably the closest to it that we've seen since. But there are so many good players out there now that he'd do well to finish on 8 majors, let alone getting anywhere near Tiger's total. If he gets to double figures, in this era, I think we'll be having the same conversations about him vs Tiger that we now have about Tiger v Jack. i.e. is he better because he won his majors in a more modern era with stronger fields.
