While eagerly awaiting the Volvo Matchplay draw later this year Homer & I are getting our first ever run out tomorrow in a club 4BBB.

I managed to follow Homer's instructions last weekend and not get a cut in our monthly medal by playing to my h'cap after double bogey'ing the last hole and driving like a complete t!t for the hole round but I'm hoping I've fixed that on the range this week and I'm really looking forward to it.

Hopefully the weather will behave and we'll put in a decent performance.

Far from it, the fact I was standing on the 18th tee with two shots of my h'cap left was a minor miracle.

I was +12 through 13 holes and basically driving it sideways all day. I got up and down for par 3 times from between 70-100 yds after blocking drives to the right. I only hit 3 fairways and birdied 3 of the 4 GIR I hit. I had to get up and down on the last for a 7 having topped my drive which bounced accross a bridge and hit a ball cleaner landing the other side of an adjacent tee. I then blocked my recovery. Mishit a 3-w through a ditch, over hit my layup into the rough, fatted my 5th 50yds short, pitched and sunk an 8 footer for double. It was probably the luckiest double bogey I've ever made.

I still can't decide whether I should be relieved to make the buffer or gutted I missed the chance for a cut. MostlyI think I'm gutted, chances to get cut don't come around that often, especially when you're driving it behind trees all day.

Bloody hell Hawkeye sounds like me. (h/c25) :D :D

Nothing against you personally but it makes us higher handicappers feel better when we read about the good players doing it, even if its only occasionally.

I haven't mentioned the treble I made on 5 either

Sadly I'd protected my handicap by the 14th. I doubled the last too. Hooked drive decent 5 wood recovery, pulled hybrid (bailed out of going right into the pond) chip on and three putts.

Went to the range tonight. Irons were good but I need to find some fairy dust for the driver as it was low and left or high and right. I get a feeling Mike is carrying a dead weight tomorrow. Still aim high and lets see where we go. HTL managed to get me round and win an Ascot Masters event (no pressure Mike) with me actually keeping us in it at the end so who knows. A good drive here and there a few decent putts and away we go. That or my normal mediocrity - who knows (but we can guess).

Good luck out there guys - looking forward to the post game report already

I do like the phrase 'protecting my Handicap' I will be using that to fend off some p**s taking this weekend when I spoon one:D

And here's the report...

Course frozen - competition postponed until next Saturday

Is that it?????

Homer could have turned that into a three page thread!

(minimum)

Well it turned into a matchplay. Me and the pro against Mike and a bit of a bandit (no really) off 25. Nip and tuck. We were 1 up at the turn, they go two up by 13, we nick the lead back at 16 and Mike makes a heroic up and down from 100 yards to halve it at the last.

The prognosis for next week is we must do better (it's combined stableford scores off 3/4 handicap) but we may ahve the potential to do well as a match team
