Hi all,

I have started to work on my short game or at lease look into doing so, as the app landed at about the same time I thought it would be worth a look. I have played though the first few videos RE chipping and I note that it is what I think they call the liner method, no open stance and so on.

I have never had a short game lesson bar one putting lesson, I have always chipped and pitched(badly) in the way I feel like hitting the ball. I am thinking that as I am starting at zero I may as well take whatever method. Are there draw backs to the new method, should I go traditional as I have my my full swing so that there are plenty of people who can support me.

I think Homer is using this for his short game and I know Fundy has looked at it, is there anyone else using it successfully?

All and any info welcome please. I would like to make a big push into my short game this year. I think the biggest problem is I like hitting golf balls but don`t really enjoy chipping, pitching and putting so I need to change that and add some fun.

Thanks

Alex

I have gone away from it to some degree, mainly because having my hips square at address left me becoming stuck and way too handsy through the shot, having my hips a little open allows me to rotate a bit more enabling me to hit with the big muscles and not the hands as much.

As for the right method I think there is a bit of trial and error in there to find a method that suits you.

On the plus side they have now opened the pitching area at AVGC so if you get there a bit early in future you can do some short game work rather than just ball bashing :)

To be a critic, the green is vey small and seems to all roll to the middle but ye, ill be there!! I also spotted a small part about 400 yards from my house on google earth the other day. I shall be living in said small park soon!!

Are alot of coaches teaching the new method Steve and apart from your hip rotations issue do you think it all makes sense? its alot of using the wedge bounce and a little more rotation than hands and arms is it not (ill be more educated as we go forward).

Yes, theres definitely a shift towards using the bounce of the wedge. For me the linear method actually made it harder for me to rotate and hence became more handsy, everything I was trying to get away from lol

Send me a video and I'll have a look

Is this at me or Fundy? Are you looking for videos from the app or of me? If its the latter, I dobut I have used the same two swings twice so not alot to look at. I really want to start from the beginning. I would like one swing and 14 clubs if you know what I mean. I think from your posts and videos this is your thing too. I want consistency in my game all the way though.

If I could see you chipping and pitching on the course, I should be able to help

Cant turn that offer down. I shall swipe the camera from Fundy when I next see him... Never know I may even get him to be the camera man!!...

Having played with you AL personally think you need a little rethink around the short game, especially regards to choice of shot. You play 99.9% of the shot with a wedge of some sort and try and hit a high shot in. There is a time and place for this shot, but especially round AVGC the low bump is a far better and more effective shot. The technical point I would make is your chipping/pitching is very wristy and your bad ones are usually caused by you decelerating through the ball (I expect 90% of your decent contact pitches/chips come up short).

In terms of focus, learning which shot to play and when and working on a simple pitch and run could save you several shots a round. With regards to chipping/pitching with a wedge eliminating the wrist break a bit and focussing on accelerating through the ball would be my initial focus

Agree with every word (though I do play a few more 8 irons then you may note). I want some forum, to know when to play what and have an A B C guide to those shots. As I have mentioned I also need to make it more fun for my self and I know I like ball striking then get board up close, clearly a psychological blunder.

Still interested in other opinions of the app and the content in it...
