well started on champix on 2nd feb, quit date was set at 16th feb, smoked my head off for 2 weeks thinking these tablets aint working!

anyway was back at quacks for follow up on 14th, she just said see how it goes as after 21 years smoking 40 a day it may take a little longer.

I have not had a single cig since the 15th!!! the odd tiny craving out of habit but no real issues. ok its early days but I have another 10 weeks of the pills to go and I hope by then the demon nicotine will be well and truly gone :)

only down side is I am eating like a horse and had chronic wind (kids are avoiding me lately haha), a small price to pay

I am hoping to use the money I save (approx £80-100 pcm) towards membership fee's and join a club

I have to admit to being very sceptical with regards the tablet approach, but as I am the least motivated and have sod all willpower they must work!

and haha AW, maybe its your diet ;)

How do you buy 40 fags a day for £100 pcm? If I smoked 40 a day (I'm a 25 a day man) there wouldn't be much change out of £300. Good luck with quitting the stupid habit.

I get duty free baccy and fags Mick, thats why I never really bothered about quitting before. Thought as they were cheap it wasnt really an issue. (approx 2 50g pouches and 20 taylormade here and there at work per week)

usually buy 8 pouches and 200 taylor's on payday for 90 quid, usually buy the odd packet here and there aswell if I forget em or run out in between.

£80-100 might be conservative actually but not much more than that.

I tryed those tablets, waste of time. Didnt work for me, but I know a guy who they did work for. GOOD LUCK.

WILL POWER is what I need and they dont sell that!!!!

I am using Champix now, been easy during the week but really hard when at the club, so been smoking on weekends. Not drinking for a few weeks now but these tablets are pretty good, the wife is on here last month now.

Hmmm, considering quitting on National No Smoking Day which is on 9th March.
Did quite well on the patches on a previous attempt.

Are Champix the way forward?

So many methods available now ie patches, champix, lozenges, gum, hypnotherapy and accupuncture...... which is best?

Would really fancy giving it a good try next time, saves money, health and would mean I wouldn't stink like an ashtray!

Champix is the most successful, nicotine replacement means giving up twice, the fags and then the replacement. Most people who have succeeded have tried at least 5 times- so keep trying, and surprisingly most people who stop do it without anything.

^^ +1

I was given the option of starting flying again or smoking. Took me around a fortnight and never bothered again.

It's also quite dangerous in terms of side effects. bloke i worked with got very paranoid and was convinced a paedophile was living in his loft. had to check 30 times a night! And "friend of a friend" was on them and stabbed his son in the leg with a fork!
Personally, I'm 15 days cigarette free after cold turkey
God i need a fag :(

Our old man screwed his old holburn (other brands were available) up, threw it inthe bin and never touched one again, pure will power, no patches or replacements. He said it was the only way to do it, yeah he suffered for 5 days then he just forgot about it and he smoked from 14-53. Good luck, dig in and go for it.

Good luck Gibbo,
I too have been a heavy smoker for many years, tried to pack up a few times with patches or gum but it always seemed in my head that i was thinking how long i can go without a cigarette and rather than having stopped, i knew i was going to have another one, and my only drive was to go longer than before.

I read your post earlier in the week and have googled and researched Champix a bit, anyway i had to go to the docs last night for some painkillers for sciatica (which is a pain in the ar$e, ............... and leg and i would not wish on anybody) and ............... i walked out with a prescription for Champix . So here goes , 1st tablet going down the hatch now .

:o ;) ;) ;)

Anyone notice that alcohol doesn't work when on champix, they are like a complete pleasure buster. Crack still works though.......
