Just back from te course and the practice hole and things might finally be coming together. Played Saturday and with the horrendous conditions I just swung within myself from the 4th hole onwards and things were pretty steady. Tried to replicate today and had so much more control it was scary.

There were moments when I drifted into auto pilot and was hitting ball after ball onto the green, realised that I was hitting well, concentrated, proceeded to miss the green, went back on auto pilot and green hitting service resumed.

Think I might finally be moving from the training it stage to trusting it. Only taken me two years

Here's hoping I don't go back to thrashing it at Thetford and look like a complete knob!!!!

Bob/Flarkey you are officially on frog in a blender watch. If my swing goes wild poke me in the ribs!!!!!!

I hit 2 absolutely sweet approaches today, 1 with a 5 iron and the other with 7 iron, both 12 feet ish from the pin but had to be the easiest swings I have ever made. Just thought right, 170 thats 5 iron and kerching and same with the 7.

I lay up a lot more now whereas before on par 5's I would try and rip a 3 wood or hybrid now I just look for either the 150 - 100 yard lay up. Missed out 3 holes and I was on 29 points and 81 shots, which I was well happy with considering 3 triples for zilch (2 8's and a 7)

glad you have found the answer :)

Wouldn't quite go that far. Doing it in practice is one thing. Doing it on the course when it matters quite another. But hitting it better in practice is a very positive step. Glad to hear things are improving for you. How did jnr find it?

I think I'm finally getting it into my thick skull that I don't have to hit the case of the ball with the driver to make it go!
Still have a lash at it occasionally but more and more are finding the fairway/1st cut.
I'vce been there for some time with my irons now. can't really understand why it's taken so long for the driver to catch up...

Yup most definitely the next step for me is to hit my 3 wood the same way. Nice and relaxed like a practice swing. Annoying thing is I've known that's what I need to do for ages but like you say actually doing it is something else!!!

Complete opposite for me tonight, I have been hitting great for me) shots for the last month or so, trusting the club to do all the work, staying relaxed, not thinking about the different positions of the swing just trusting everything to work. Well tonight it all went wrong and however hard I tried to just swing the club, I kept having loads of thoughts running through my head which ruined the swing completely. I will try to have a game on Friday and just let it go again. I was so happy with my game last week that even when I miss hit the ball on the tee on a par 5, I trusted myself to hit the ball well and not try to "catch up" with my partner. I landed first on the green, and won the hole. Just hope it comes back to me straight away, if not it would be agony to have tasted golf that nice and not taste it again.

Oh my goodness, did it come back last night? I average 56 on the front nine, and last night I got 3 pars, and really looked as though I was going to smash through 50, I was getting more than a little excited. Until it all went wrong on the 5th, it took 4 shots to get past the ladies tee, scored a ten, but recovered on the 6th, and 7th, 8th I lost a ball on the par 5 and scored 8. Finally ended up with a 51, but seeing as two holes took 18 shots, I think I am very close to breaking 50 and 100.
