Not one for betting on the horses unless its the National but I received one of those random text messages today from an unknown pro gambler/tipster.

He was kind enough to give me this tip below and another couple in the future before he offers me his service.

Baoulet Delaroque, 3.05 Wincanton

I got all excited until I realised that its the 2/1 F

Best thing is hes sent you and 9 others that horse, another 10 people the next horse, another 10 people the third horse etc etc. Guarantees hes sent some people the winner. He then divies them up another race which guarantees someone has 2 winners in a row etc etc

Blimey it won.:whoo:

Sadly I didn't back it :( but then I wouldn't be tempted at 2-1. If the next one is 33-1 then I might have a flutter.

I hear what you say Fundy that's very clever. Guaranteed to get someone 2-3 winners so they sign up for his service only to find that the tips then are naff.

Thats one approach, theres plenty of other scams, very very few genuine tipsters out there (I used to be one, not on the horses mind).

Ask them if they can show you 2 years of verified results proving their profit claims will usually weed out 99% of them!

If he's as good as he makes out then why tell other people? I'll wait to see what he's next tip is and might have a small flutter for fun.

I would want grand national prices though 😉

There's certainly a (sound) argument for that!

However, the 'counter' argument is that providing the information for a relatively small fee to a potentially vast number of customers is a method of obtaining similar, or even greater, returns with significantly less risk!

Isn't that what Darren brown did?
It's common practice in tipping world. Worryingly people fall for it

Which was similar to the Glasgow Barras scam. A guy walks around handing out envelopes to random people, inside has a tip for a particular race. Of course, he's handed out tonnes of envelopes, with every horse in that race covered.

People who received an envelope containing the name of the actual winner then think it might be worthwhile to contact the tipster, where he will provide them with their next tip, for a small fee.

Never underestimate the power of greed.

One of the big things are referrals, where a 'tipster' will suggest you join XYZ bookie as all his tips are based on that bookie, then what you dont know is, he then gets a % of every loss you make. and lets face it, 90% of people on betting sites end up at a loss.
