Getting Old

You're right - its a 'bitter / sweet' time of year.

Looking at changing the car and wondering it will the last new one - I should / will I keep it and 5 year warranty.
etc. etc

I teased my late father about buying two new suits at the age of 74.

He lived to 88, so perhaps the advice is don't always believe what is "written on the packet ".

Lost a few members this year and having started in ICU it has brought home just how tenuous our hold on life can be. I'm lucky that family wise we've been lucky and everyone is still here to go into 2019 but I do miss my parents at this time of year. On a positive note HID has a lot of Christmas cards from the kids from school which has cheered the place up (and made her happy, which make me happy)

The longest verified living human had 122 yrs on the clock. The longest living, but not having their birth registered although they did have supporting docs, was 146. You're only middle aged...

Seems everyone has similar thoughts and feelings this time of year. Mum and Dad rang up yesterday to wish us happy new year and both said we're in our 70s now never know when our last one will be so better make the most of it...

Doesn't help I thi k that they both lost someone close earlier in the year makes people reflect and wonder who is next...

I say forget about it and just enjoy each day

I had both in-laws phone and wish me happy new year. Never happened before and although the father-in-law was ill at Christmas I've never given their longevity a second thought. It was nice to get the calls but it did make me wonder about why they did it for the first time in over 25 years. Maybe working in ICU has changed my mindset

You could be right perhaps it's mindset on your behalf and theirs. Since I posted this earlier my dad has rung again to ask if we had a good new year. He never phones or speaks on the phone normally just leaves that up to mum and relays what he wants to say in the background. I think they've definetly had a year where they are almost preparing for the what if!

As of today they're looking at selling up, downsizing and setting things right for future. Definetly be a shift in focus for them.

I am definitely into old age, brought a pair of sketchers old dodderers shoes today... ugliest things I think ive ever bought, but by heck they are comfy. go really nice with the cardigan the wife got me for Christmas :(

My mates son helped clear out his deceased grand parents house and loft . Afterwards he said to his parents, I hope you two clear out your loft before you go . :ROFLMAO:
