Getting fed-up....

We haven't closed the course but we have had intermittent trolleys bans - in June and july!
Today I wore my FJ boots rather than shoes, MacWet gloves and a waterprrof jacket, and that was BEFORE it started raining

two Saturdays back our comp got cancelled after the heavens opened about 12:30 and flooded a number of greens. Fortunately for me I was standing in the pro shop when it happened and didn't need to venture out.

I played this weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and have to say that despite the volume of rainfall this year, the course is looking absolutely fantastic. Of course there are one or two small patches on a couple of fairways where water is still retained, and we have our usual winter ban of buggies between 12 - 16, but I don't think I've ever seen the course looking better.

I think my last round of golf was in May :(

I think we've now got 6 holes open at our place after the flooding. I have zero motivation to go out at the moment. I have zero motivation to practice.

And I bet it'll bloody rain all weekend

we've had a few day dry weather at Nairn.

Played last night bone dry and starting to harden up even had a few long run outs and hit a 290 yarder on the 16th usually goes about 230 the last few months as damp on the right side of the fairway just stops dead.

Playing a matchplay tie tonight and it is hosing down.

Just been and bought one of those big waterproof covers for my golf bag/trolley.

After getting soaked last Friday I could be doing without this!!

I used to laugh at some of those boys who wear golf boots. have you sen them looking like hiking boots, but have cleats. fashion police was needed, but now I'm thinking maybe its not that bad

Our front 9 has been open constantly with the back 9 closed for the best part of 2-3 weeks.

However it re-opened at the weekend there and while the fairways were still a tad spongey in places the greens throughout the course are 100% and a credit to the greenskeepers.

Its a new-ish course and when I joined in April the fairways were pretty bare with grass, all of a sudden we have had a mixture of sunshine, warm weather and rain and they have came to life, the place is looking great.

It's still a tad depressing though, I bought loads of nice "summer" golf clothes in Florida this year and hardly had a chance to wear any of them!

Our course seems to have coped quite well. Not had a day shut.

I usually play at least once a week and there's never really been any problem with puddles, just very soft greens.

The biggest problem for me is that the rough has become very like what Tiger described Lytham being like. Basically if you hit your ball in it there's pretty much no point looking for it. Not great when your spraying it off the tee

We've got the same sort of rough.
Dunno about losing a ball in it, you could lose a small golfer in it!
I've warned my 5ft 1" mate to take a flag on a long stick with her if she needs to go in it!

Our place has managed to stay open, just. It was marginal at the weekend but with no heavy rain it stayed playable.

On the plus side, the course looks superb. Nice sharp endges to fairways and fringes and the 3 foot tall grass areas give some holes a lovely appearance. No need to worry about what ball to play. Even a Topflite would stop dead on the greens.

But it is playing so long I can only reach about 4 of the par 4's in regulation. If you stray off the fairway it's a hack out or a lost ball. Bunkers are a lottery and the greens are hard to judge.

CSS goes up a shot every comp but the course is playing about 4 shots harder in my view. Loads of N/Rs in every medal. It's hard to feel at all positive about making a score and I can only see my handicap creeping up .1 every time I tee it up.

Got a medal today and hoping for something better now I have an extra shot and after just missing the buffer on Saturday. Going out with the view that I'm lucky to be playing, especially as so many courses are closed, and just enjoy the challenge.

Allegedly.....

From Saturday - Summer's coming...

Meant to be dry here from Friday night till the following weekend at least....

There is light at the end of the tunnel - or is it an Express Train coming the other way..?

Our course, (Long Sutton), has only been closed on a couple of occasions although we have lost a few holes when the river has flooded the 11th.

In general despite the weather the staff have done a fantastic job of keeping the course open and the greens despite being spongy are in very good condition.

Although the fairways are wet and the grass is longer than most would like the drainage work carried out over the last few years is paying dividents, however it would be nice if we got some sunshine and decent weather before the end of the summer.

The good news is I can get away with using Pinnacle Precisions as they stop dead on the greens and if I lose one at 75p per ball it's not an issue.

Just phoned our place and still only open on 9 holes BUT it seems the 50 strong society who are booked today going off both tees from 12 o'clock are able to play on the unplayable back 9

Not happy - not happy at all.
