Well and truly shagged tonight, one of the most 1 sided games I have ever seencould have been a barrowload and yet another trophy slips away from the master tactician and much lauded manager of Arsenal but all we will hear from him is either....

1)The sending off changed the game,he'll be greeting his wee pokey face off about it instead of concentrating on how his team got utterly ridden tonight. - Yes it was harsh but over the 2 legs you were nearly 3rd best in a 2 horse race.

2)Not to worry we can now concentrate on the league.- That league win won't happen either Wenger lad.

How long can he get away with masquerading as a top manager?6 years and counting......

So many players in that team are so poor,Rosiscky,Bedner to name just a couple,RVP is a fud and your keepers are rank.

Inclined to agree with you Dodger, Arsenal's season is unravelling....again.
Wenger has had long enough now, time for a change.

As an Arsenal fan I have to agree with most of what you said.
I think it's time we got a new manager.
Could they not get him a one way ticket back to France on the euro-star....

Mind you, can't legislate for your captain being a fool on the edge of the box. I think despite his lack of silverware he is a very good manager and its to the Arsenal boards credit that they've backed him. He's brought a lot of talent on and made some good money on deals and the club are pretty strong but perhaps lacking back up in key areas. Funnily enough I don't see the PL being all over with yet

All my mates that are Arsenal fans are complaining about the sending off but the way i see it is if RVP wasnt a tit and pushing the Barca player he would have avoided the first yellow. Can see Arsenal selling Fabregas at the end of the year and getting rid of Arsene Wenger :). Oh and Barca absolutely destroyed Arsenal :D

1 second between the ref blowing and RVP shooting. Call that a sending off?
The ref's a complete knob, and I certainly aint no Arsenal fan. Didn't see the game as I was watching my team tonight. From what I heard on Sky, it looks like Arsenal were played off the pitch.

Maybe next year!

Not only did Barcelona give Arsenal a footballing lesson, but their work ethic and the way they played for each other was a joy to watch.

They didn't give Arsenal any time on the ball and when Barca lost it, was amazing to see how quickly they got it back.

I also think they missed the pace of Walcott - he would have exploited Barca's weaker defence tonight.

I wonder if EPL and SPL will have learned something from the game tonight?

Golfmmad.

Is the correct answer, sitting in the pub I said to my mate that the ref probably watched the RVP thing again and decided he should have walked then so the first chance he got that was it.

It was a booking according to the rules. And it was his second booking of the game so again according to the rules, he is sent off.

Ironic that on a golf forum, a sport where we hold the rules so dear to our hearts and understand it makes the game the quality one it is, that you bitch about someone enforcing them in another sport.

Hopefully Wenger and VP will get lengthy Euro bans like Drogba did. You can't call the ref a joke on tv and hope to get away with it- even if the ref didn't seem to be having a good day.

In every other walk of life its the CONMAN who is the guilty party and those CONNED are the victims but in football the person being conned (ref) is GUILTY.

Is it any wonder ref's don't know whats real and when they are being conned nowadays and VP in his mind was wasting time. I am suprised Wenger saw it tbh.

I'm amazed at all this 'Barcelona @ss Licking' going on here.......

Yes, they were completely 'outplayed' by a fantastic Barcelona side......
Yes, Barcelona 'could have had' 5/6 goals on the night........
Yes, Arsenal didnt have a shot on target.......

But, it was exactly the same in the 1st leg, ........and Arsenal won 2-1.

Like Golf, it aint 'how'....its 'how many'.

The simple fact is the Ref ruined the game in sending off Van Persie, - it totally killed Arsenal's chances of scoring on the Counter attack, and made a difficult or unlikely job nigh on impossible.

IF they had stayed 11 v 11, anything 'could' have happened, just like the 1st leg.

Oh, and for what its woth......despite Barcelona being so 'unbeleivably fantastic/slick/skillful' etc etc etc.......is it just me that finds them just boring to watch ???
Just like Spain.

And this from a Man U fan

Spot on. This is what sets barca apart. All of the top teams have good players with the ball but without it is the difference.

Arsenal sort of sat back when they lost the ball to make barca plsy in front of them but not really applying too much pressure to the man on the ball.

Meanwhile, barca actually move forward when they lose the ball to pressure the opposition and squeeze the space. Very impressive to be honest!

Well, maybe so, but in the first leg, despite Barcelona's dominance, skill, possession, and 'fantastic ability', the 2 most exciting passages of football were Arsenal's 2 goals that won them the tie.

Had the Ref not ruined the game last night, who's to say it might not have happened again.

One thing I dont get.......why the hell would Barcelona WANT Fabregas anyway ? He was totally crap last night.......

To be fair to him, he was only playing at about 70%..And he's ALOT better than he played last night.

And the whole "it's the rules" thing regarding RVP's sending off - if you've ever been to the Nou Camp, you will know how loud it is. It's the 2nd loudest stadium I've been to and is deafening when 95,000 Catalans are going bonkers.

It's clear (to everyone but the referee) that he was taking a shot at goal, not kicking the ball away in disgust...It happens about 25 times every week with offside calls and it's never carded...ever because when there's a second between the whistle and the ball being shot, there's nothing in it.

It's not as if he pulled up because he'd heard the whistle and kicked the ball away in frustration, he was in the motion of controlling and shooting the ball.

The referee completely killed what would have been an exciting finish to the game. Sepp Blatter and Platini are getting what they want. Slowly ridding the CL of English teams.

Despite Barca dominating, up to that point, Arsenal were winning the tie. I basically switched off once RVP was sent off because the result was inevitable.

The way RVP and Wenger dealt with it was totally wrong though, I'd be surprised if they didn't get a very lengthy ban.

(Forest fan by the way)
