i was at the range today and was ear wigging on a lesson in the bay next to me. he was teaching a student how to pitch using the linea stroke by gary smith. it looks and feels very odd and goes against all i've been taught so far.
has anyone give it a go or use this technique?

I think I already pitch and chip with a normal stance. Never had a lesson so naturally did it.

I guess the guy is onto something.

I did not like the forward in the stance bit for chipping. I put the ball back there so it doesn't carry to much. Its not off my heel but its not middle of the stance either.

I think his advice will work for some but not for others.

I've never been a fan of "aim your body this way, club the opposite way and look somewhere else" approach to the short game. This linear approach just seems to be aim straight, hit it straight. Unless I'm missing something it's seems pretty simple and sensible to me

the part i was refering to was when he said at impact the club and hands are all straight and not leaning forward. he said divots are bad in pitching and having the club vertical with no lean at impact alows the bounce to do its work.

all i can think is that might result in alot of thin shots

At the moment I've tied myself in knots with trying to work out what I am and aren't doing right when I chip. Stripping it back to simple basics on Saturday and starting from there. I'll take whatever approach the pro gives me as long as it is repeatable, reliable and trustworthy

As long as you pick a method and stick to it anything should work.

Maybe.

I've got a short game lesson booked for this afternoon, but it currently looks like it's going to chuck it down with rain so may be cancelled.

I would probably thin it more often than not using that method. I do tend to line up more on target and just hit down on the ball more. I find it generates more spin to give me more control when the ball hits the green.
