garmin approach watch

Lets hope it doesnt stay at the Suggested Retail Price: £279.99.

£130 more just for touch screen, lay ups and moveable pin position is a bit too much for me.

Saying that hopefully they would have fixed the way you charge it as other people are saying on here.

Out of where? The clubhouse locker room?
My phone stays in my pocket & takes almost two seconds to get out & read.

Personally I find having the watch on easier than having to use my iPhone. The watch I can just have a quick glance at that's all.

Is there not something that you cant use phone apps during comps as u also have access to wind conditions on same not just different app? And your also using ur 3g allowance up.

i think i am going to get the S3 when its out (which is very soon i think...) might save up my tesco clubcard vouchers to lessen the wallet blow... PS, if i buy a white one, does that make me need a white belt also??

Bought one last month. Used it three times. Will do a review very soon.

Q. Ease of use?
A. Very easy. Wear as watch, just before tee off, activate round on watch and it auto works out where you are. This assumes that course is mapped! Ensure you download latest firmware and courses before any use. Hit shots and you just glance at watch to get yardage. You'll have to estimate where flag is in relation to front, middle, back yardages the watch gives you.

Q. Accuracy?
A. Figures will be good, but double check when surrounded by trees as GPS availability maybe limited. The distance to actual flag depends on your eyesight of where the flag is, but if you take centre yardages its not a prob.

Q. Download data for your course?
A. You have to hope its mapped. If not, send a request and wait. And wait.

Pros: save time on course, gives you quick info with just a cursory glance. I think it helps to save shots. Very comfortable to wear once you've worked out the strap fitting.
Cons: Occasional errors in course mapping. Charger is a bit tricky.

Summary: its excellent for what it does.

I agree with this post! I really like mine. It is especially good, especially from 130 yards in......

I love mine, I find it extremely useful and it carries the correct amount of information to justify wearing one without actually thinking I am cheating, yardages to front, middle and back so depending on where the flag is and what direction the wind is blowing as long as you've done some homework on the distances you hit your clubs the working out is simple, my only word to the wise is let the watch settle when you reach your ball as it takes a minute or two to gauge the correct distance. As I've got older my judgement of distances has become unreliable and this watch gives me a lot of confidence so to me was well worth the money.

Well I succumbed last night after losing numerous Ebay auctions for one.

Bought one from Direct Golf and used the £20 off voucher so £130.

Quick question: On top of telling you distance to front, middle and back does it also tell you how far you have hit each shot. It's not a showstopper and of course you can work that out yourself by some simple calculations but is there a function for this built in?

Yes there is a function for measuring how far you hit the ball.

Question for owners of the watch - Has it helped in reducing your scores as it gives you accurate distances to the pin??

Errrr....I can clearly remember that on quite a few holes in the past it has meant I've hit the green whereas without the watch I would have either been long or short with my club estimation. So it has saved me on certain holes. But then I go and double bogey the next and give the shot back anyway.....:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I'm normally reasonably ok at working out yardages from the middle of the fairway using the 150 markers as a guide. But where the Garmin really helps is when you are coming in from a strange part of the course, (rough or another fairway etc.), and you can't see the markers at all.
And on par 3's that are played off of winter tees that bear no relation to the true marker blocks. They are the ones that really confuse me.

That explains why, when you played with me,why you looked at your watch more often than an expectant father

What else did you have to buy to get the £149 up to £150 to allow you to use the voucher ? I s'pose i'll have to get some tees

I bought a glove as I needed a new one anyway.

Just used the Garmin for the first time today. Shot 79 accumulating 45 points. The Garmin not the sole reason reason of course but ut played a small part. Best approach shots for a long long time and best round for a long long time.

As a tribute to the watch I'm still sporting it as I sit here typing. :)
