just wondering if anyone has or knows anyone who has played with this gps watch.....

been looking at getting one and they are highly recommended by many online

best price i have found so far is on www.golf247.co.uk

looking through the rest of their site they seem to sell alot of good products and i will probably be purchasing one of these items very soon

so any thoughts would be great

cheers :)

nope no spam, being genuine, just dont wanna blow my pennies on one if they are no good!

any comments would be appreciated

there is a review I think somewhere, good for approach shots and fairly easy to use, lots of courses pre loaded

I use an app on iphone but if I was to buy a standalone this would be high on the list due to the watch factor (on your wrist so less messing about to get distances) as I only use gps for shots to the green

ye i noticed the iphone app, you could buy the software from ebay.

think i will be purchaing one of these watches very soon, might prove to me that 150 markers at my course are way out!

either that or i am just .....

The watch is apparently good, there's a review in the review section.

I wouldn't, however, go anywhere near golf247. I've used them in the past and theservice was dreadful, basically lied about posting an order for the 3 weeks, then ignored me so I had to get a refund through my credit card

I got one a couple of weeks ago and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Yardages to the front back and middle of the green, you can measure your shots, track your distance around the course and it tells the time. I'm very impressed with it as you don't even notice it and if you're not bothered about bunker distances etc then I'd definitely recommend it.

Got mine from Direct Golf for £143 when they had their March madness sale, only downside is you don't hit the ballas far as you think

:(

I am on the verge of pulling the trigger for one of these myself. Cheapest I have seen it is here (£149.99)...

but they are out of stock at the moment. I have emailed them to find out when they are likely to be getting more in, but they couldn't tell me for sure because their supplier is waiting for more to arrive.
I like the idea of this DMD because I always wear a wristwatch anyway so it won't feel out of place. No download or membership fees are a big plus too.
Paul (Golfbluecustard) has one and this is what he said to me when I pm'd him to ask him what he thought of his...

"Rob am so pleased with mine.
Gives distance to Front, Middle and Back
You can measure length of any shots.
Pedometer so it tells you how far you've walked - haven't bothered yet. Acts as a normal watch as well
Checked the Garmin site before hand as it gives a list of loaded courses and all the ones i play in a year where listed - including two local par 3 pitch and putts - great but why? Battery life has been fine
I never wear a watch but as this is so light you don't even notice It's a bit fiddly to connect to the charger but once you get the knack it's easy Bought mine from American Golf for around £ 142 ish but only because Direct Golf where taking 20% off everything that week and AG did a price match down from the £ 175 they wanted
Think we get a Direct Golf discount code giving 10% off in the current GM (tiger cover) issue.
Hope helps and good luck. If you need any thing else just ask....Paul"

I'd love to get mine sorted before the Woodhall Spa meet.

I've got one, and love it to be honest.

I had a Bushnell V2 Rangefinder, which although was brilliant, I just felt a little conspicuous using it, and the slight faff having to get it out every time, point it at the flag, etc etc. Felt like I looked as though I should pepper the pin every time after using it !

With the S1, I can simply glance at it when I arrive at the ball, and immediately see the distances, - a quick mental allowance for Pin position adjustment, and away you go, select the club. No-one even notices, and no inconvenience to you.

The 'Measure Shot' feature is very good, if a smidge 'depressing', as mentioned ! I've sent a few boomers out there, fully expecting a 280/300yd measurement, ........and slightly deflated at 259/266 etc etc ...... lol.

Everyone that has seen it has so far said how good it is, and has added to their wish/want list !

Oh, and it tells the time too - happy days.

I've always wanted a GPS but could never justify spending £250+. I spotted Direct Golfs crazy price of £143 and thought "it would be rude not to".

I used it for the first time on Wednesday and I have to say I'm smitten! My problem has always been under or over clubbing due to poor distance perception and never fully believing those 150 yard markers.

On Wednesday I decided to place my trust in the S1 and to play it safe I always clubbed up to hit the distance to the middle of the green. I hit 9 greens in regulation and shot 8 under my hcp. The convenience of knowing the distance from a quick glance of your watch is incredibly satifying and I'd recommend the S1 to anyone.

Ps. It is depressing to realise your 280 yard drive only went 260...
Pps. I was suprised to find that all the 150 markers were accurate. I never doubted them... honest ;)

I just can't play wearing a watch otherwise might have looked at 1. I do like my Nikon rangefinder but you can look a bit of a knob at times, measured the distance to the flag on Tuesday, and then sent a 5 iron sailing over the green onto the beach !

Well, my S1 Approach was delivered yesterday afternoon, and initial impressions are very favourable.
Obviously, I haven't ventured out onto the course with it yet, but had a little play with it at work.
Very light and comfortable to wear, simple to get up and running (as in no need to look at the instructions simple).
Selected "Start round" and the unit began locating satellites, which it managed to do within 30 seconds. Very impressive. It then listed all of the courses within 30 miles of my location, starting from the nearest (Highwoods) and working outwards from there. I was very surprised to see both courses (9 hole and full) listed at both Sedlescombe and Beauport Park at Hastings. I was expecting the full 18 holes to be loaded, but not the 9 holers! Immediately the benefits of not having to download courses I was planning to play as in the SkyCaddie set up became evident.
When I got home, I plugged it into the PC to see if there were any software/course updates available from Garmin but the unit was shown as having the latest software installed, so good to go.
Really looking forward to giving it it's first outing at Woodhall Spa at the week-end. As others have mentioned, the device is fairly limited in the information it gives you, literally distance to front/middle/back of green, the ability to measure your "big hits" (I won't be using that one too much!) and a pedometer to see how far you have walked in total around the course, but personally that's enough for me. Oh and when it's not being used as a GPS it tells the time too! And the day and date, and has an alarm clock facility as well. I had a SkyCaddie SG2.5 and only ever used it for distances to greens, so this will do the same thing but is much simpler to use, is always "to hand" and has no faffing around to download or yearly subscription to pay. Will let you know how it goes after the week-end (I promise not to talk you through my round!).

Some interesting reading, thanks all. I've been thinking of chopping my V300 for one of these recently. The V300 is great and obviously does a lot more than the S1, but it's usually clipped to my trolley and whilst it's not the hardest thing in the world to remove if I'm going 'off-piste', the immediacy and convenience of the S1 is very appealing.
Mmm?? ;)

This is also one of the reasons I went for the S1 after getting rid of my SkyCaddie.
It was all too easy to forget the bloody thing was attached to my bag, leave it outside the clubhouse after the game and nip in for a quick pint or two. Come out of the clubhouse, unclip the bag straps and the SkyCaddie would come unclipped and fall to the ground.
I never had it stolen (obviously) but I left myself open to it a few times.
The S1 will be with me all of the time, and as I say..it seems so light and comfortable that after a while you'd actually forget you've got it on.
A couple of years ago I thought it would be a great idea if somebody actually designed a GPS unit that you could wear like a watch, but didn't think they could cram so many courses into a unit this size.
Modern science, eh?
:D :D :D :D
