Gareth Bale

Very good player but a diver and a cheat for sure, and so unnecessary for a player with his ability. Destined to play at a higher level in the near future, I think.

The Boy is a very good player . whether you like spurs or not you have to see this , people questioning whether he would make it at "bigger" clubs or not , you cant judge the boy on something he hasnt done yet , right now he has transformed himself from a WHO to a WOW , in our golfing terms he is gone from a good amatuer off +1 or 2 to winning a few tour events ..

If he has gotten from where he was to where he is , who is to say he cant be even better ..
As for diving, they did a thing on Match of the day one night think they showed 7 "dives" 4 he was definatlly clipped , and at his speed he went over , 1 was questionable , very little contact . 2 he dived ..
any how is there anyone on here with a team that hasnt had a player or players dive ? wouldnt think so ..

Totally agree
Yet again someone whos transformed himself into a winner is being knocked.
He has become a world beater,no doubt in my mind he will go onto a bigger club.
Definatly been the best player in the PL for a while now imo.

Who is better than Bale in the prem? He's the one stand out player at the moment and easily the most valuable...

....... At the moment.

Who is better than Bale in the prem?

As always it's going to be subjective depending on team loyalties. I'm not a fan, nor have any loyalty to these teams but.

Bale has a 15 goals this year - Suarez, Van Persie have 18 and 19 respectively.

Bale has an Av' shots per game of 4.9 - Suarez has 5.8 and Van Persie has 3.5. So Van Persie scores more goals from less attempts

Bale has a pass success rate of 78.4%. - Suarez has 77.2% an Van Persie has 80.2%. So Van Persie, a striker, has a higher pass sucess rate than a winger.

.... So there's 2, statistically, straight away.

As for my personal opinion, non-statistic based.

David Silva, Eden Hazard, Jack Wilshire, Yaya Toure all give more, on the whole to the team than Bale, but again, that's just my opinion.

I cant think of a better player in the premiership this season.
I agree, and comparing his stats with Suarez and RVP is daft in my opinion. Bale is a midfield player, can play wide left or through the middle. The other two are strikers so you would expect them to score more often. Which of the three would I like to see with the ball in the middle of the park and run on goal.:mmm: He will be a big loss to the Premier league if he goes abroad.

Not a Spurs fan, but I can recognise real talent.

It's not daft at all comparing those player at all. The question was name a better player. Stats show Suarez and van Persie have scored more goals, granted they are strikers.

RVP has a higher pass success rate (Striker) than Bale (Winger). RVP also has a higher goals per shot figure so you could argue he is more clinical in front of goal.

I have no doubt the boy he is talent, and is in a fantastic run of form at the minute for sure, but, IMHO, he is not the best player in the league.

IMHO, the player I listed below Suarez and RVP give more for the team on the whole than Bale.

What will Spuds do when he leaves for a big club?

Spurs lost Van der Vaart and Modric last year and I thought they'd plummet but fair play to AVB, he's kept them up around top 4 with a lot of help from Bale for sure but one man doesn't make a team.

Juan Mata has better all-round stats than that :)

Or to simplify it further.

RVP:
Games - 27
Goals -19
Assists - 7
Shots - 94

Bale:
Games - 24
Goals - 15
Assists - 1
Shots - 112

A striker with more assists than a winger, who has had less shots but scored more goals. Add to that hishigher pass success rate, tells it all for me

And how many lung bursting runs have Suarez and RVP made to track back and make a tackle ? You can't compare stats for a forward against a midfield player. Forwards tend to knock the ball off simple passes, so success rates are bound to be better than a midfield player that is making crosses, and trying defence splitting passes.

Shots per goals ? Bale shoots from 25 yards most of the time, Suarez, RVP mostly inside the box. Surely the closer you are to goal the more accurate you are going to be ? Strikers are clinical in front of goal, midfielders ?

Ray Wilkins had about a 100% pass success rate, but always passed backwards. Glenn Hoddle probably had a 60% pass rate, but always looked for a killer ball. Which one was the better passer ? Holding midfielders will have the best pass rates, attacking midfielders the worse rates.

You can keep stats, I know what I see on the pitch, and Bale is a top midfield player, with a strike rate better than most strikers. In my opinion.;)

I take you ignored my personal choices?

I listed Suarez and RVP as statistically better. I've also listed a whole host of players I consider more valuable to their team as a whole.

To be honest those pass statistics are pointless.
2% difference over a 100 passes = 2 hardly conclusive.
Sorry but cant take your 4 examples as serious.

RVP:

Juan Mata

Games - 31
Goals -13
Assists - 12
Shots - 59
Pass % - 85.5%

Great all-round player.

I take you ignored my personal choices?

I listed Suarez and RVP as statistically better. I've also listed a whole host of players I consider more valuable to their team as a whole.

Silva, sorry but he has been poor this season compared to last. Yaya Toure is a solid midfielder but has not changed games on a regular basis like Bale.
Wilshere has had a few good games recently, but has not single handily changed games like Bale. He may well become a great player, but not proven to me yet.
Hazard. I think you might be in the minority if you think he has played better than Bale this season. Some good games at the beginning of the season, but light weight recently.

I am judging Bale not just on just this season, but over the last two or three. He also seems to be still improving at 23, and I have a feeling there are not many midfielders or defenders that fancy playing against him a the moment. Pace dribbling skill and a lethal shot.

Players more valuable to his team.:mmm: Bale is the Spurs team at the moment.;)

The only person in football not to comment on the Real Madrid story is Bale himself. It would be interesting to know if he actually fancies a move abroad as very few Brits do it and make a go of it.

Juan Mata

Games - 31
Goals -13
Assists - 12
Shots - 59
Pass % - 85.5%

Great all-round player.

That is a good call. Consistently played well this season. Shows the strength of the Spanish team that he can't get into it. For some reason not the most exciting player to me. Might be because he plays for Chelski.;)
