Just wondered what folks have as gaps on their 'woods'

Clearly the distance gap is more critical but as yardage is dependent on the individual player I'm asking about gaps in degrees

  1. My driver is 10.5
  2. 3wood at 15
  3. 5wood at 19
  4. 4Hybrid at 22
  5. 5Hybrid at 25

Clubs 3-5 are always in the bag with either 1 or 2 for off the tee depending on how I'm hitting them (but never both together)

So the least loft I have for playing off grass is 19 degrees & I have three clubs covered in just 6 degrees which (when written down) seems a bit close!

What do you have?

Driver 10.5
3 wood 15.5
5 wood 18
4 hybrid 22
6-PW
52 and 56 wedges

I do keep considering a higher lofted hybrid as I don't hit my 4 or 5 iron and it seems here may be a wee gap between my 4 hybrid and my 6 iron

Driver 9.5

3W 15
Hybrid 19

I'm after more flexibility at the other end of the bag.

I have - and would probably again - also used a 22* Hybrid, but that would mean dropping the LW (no bad thing) and/or going to 52/58 wedges.

In the bag for last night's match which I lost 1 down

1. Callaway Big Bertha driver 12°
2. TaylorMade SLDR Mini 14°
3. TaylorMade RBZ 2 5 Wood 19°
4. TaylorMade RBZ 2 3 Hybrid 19°

Not in the bag last night
1. TaylorMade R7 draw 3 wood 15°
2. Forgan K series Rescue 15°
3. Forgan K series Rescue 19°

Funny you should say that. When I did my PING fitting, I hit both 4 & 5 H and found there was only 8 yds between them (which is not unusual acrording to the fitter) so I was advised to pick just one as I could accomodate any gapping resulting with small changes to the neighbouring club strikes.

Seemed to make sense!

Interesting, what kind of distance gaping do you get with the two 19 degree stage 2's

TBH that's what's put me off getting one, been filling the gap reasonably well by just gripping down a bit and swinging easier

I was having at good 30-40 yards between by 4&5 hybrids (probably due in part to the poor standard of 5 hybrid as it was an older slazenger out of a clearance bin many moons ago) just changed to a TM stage 2 5hybrid and its closed a lot to my cobra 4 hybrid but there still 15 yards in it (which might close more as I get used to the TM a bit more)

Driver 10.5
Fairway 17
Hybrid 19 then onto the irons.

Too many 3 and 5 wood combos have too little gap between them loftwise.
3 degrees equates to about 10 yards - hence having that gap between irons(ish)..
10 yards between a 3 and 5 wood is simply not enough assuming you hit them correctly
Although I only have 2° between my fairway and hybrid they do go significantly different distances, mainly due to a couple of inches in shaft length.
At the end of the day it's yardage and not degrees that matter but I would be interested to know peoples gaps between a 15° 3 wood and 18° 5 wood....

Totally agree with above, spot on comment / analysis. Really eye opener doing a gapping session and resulted in my dropping 5w altogether and going D-3w-17H at top of bag.

Driver set to 12.75°
4 wood 17°
Hybrid #1 21°
Hybrid #2 24°

Loft helps me (home-made swing produces a naturally low shot) and once I'm happy with settings I rarely fiddle - it's then all about the distances and shape of the shot like most folk.

Driver 14 degree
3W - 17 degree
3 Rescue - 19 degree
4 Rescue - 22 degree

Driver is 10.5*. Thinking about knocking it down to 9.5.
3w is currently set at 13*. This is almost exclusively a tee club for me and I'm finding the 13 degree setting gives me a better flight.
Hybrid is 20*

Last two rounds I put a 19* 5w in the bag, but it's not a fixture.

I also have an 18* 2 iron (mph4) that is normally in there instead of the 5w.

currently have room between my driver and 19 degree hybrid.

I haven't found a 3wood I am happy with. I had a nike 4 wood and the face caved in. :(
