Interim report since recent purchase - Saturday comp, 13 pars and 1 birdie, including 6 saving chips with my new Vokey 52/08.
For all you guys thinking about getting one - buy it.
For all you guys thinking about buying anything else - buy a gap wedge.
Up and downers will save you more shots than any other club, apart maybe from the right putter.

I love my 52 degree wedge too and now I've had my short game lesson to remind me how to chip its starting to come alive again. I spent an hour on the putting green yesterday trying chips with different clubs to different locations (3 feet- to 30 feet away) and I was so much better and even holed a few. Happy days.

you would get shot chipping onto a putting green most places I know

I have never understood that. What harm does it do, and most of the putting greens with this sign up are worse than temps anyway. Flop shots, may be not, but chipping?

We are allowed to chip onto the back third of ours, and I can't say it does any harm at all.
