I bought a GG waterproof jacket very early this year. I noticed not long after I bought it that when it rained, the water seemed to soak into the garment rather than beading off and I felt cold and wet although I wasn't wet. I was under the impression that the water droplets should be rolling off the top rather than soaking in. I asked at the shop where I bought it and they said it was fine and thats what was supposed to happen. Is this right or is the water supposed to be running off?

Please see my post in the 'Waterproofs' thread.

What you're experiancing is the 'wetting out' of the outer fabric. You're jacket will still be waterproof due to the membrane between the outer fabric and the inner scrim, ie the Gore-Tex.

You can reproof the 'beading' through the washing machine for that new look, but I've never done it.

Cheers HH, I'm aware of wetout through my business as I produce safetywear but when these get wet the water beads on them, I thought this would happen on the top.
cheers

The water just beads off of the outer skin of my GG, never had a problem. Mine are about 14 months old, so maybe this is yet to come ??

I have a similar experience with Ski wear but do use a special wash to waterproof them every year, think it is called Nikkax (??).

Hi there,
The Galvin Green website has a good section on care of garments under FAQs.I was thinking about buying the solutions suggested to 'rectivate the water repellant properties'. Has anyone any experience of this?
