After taking a sabbatical in 2012 (I haven't worked since just before Xmas 2011), tomorrow is my first day back at work.

It's been a great year, with golf featuring highly. Despite the wet weather, I can't even begin to guess how many rounds I've played or how much practise I put in. I do know that I played at 33 different courses and in a host of opens - winning two and a load of other scratch and handicap prizes. It was a successful year at my home course as well but I've done enough crowing in previous threads!

Considering how much time I had to play and practise, I'm a bit disappointed to only take my handicap down from 10 to 7. I'd done that by July and then got stuck; I had a bit of a lower back problem, changed clubs and lost a bit of confidence - possibly tweaked too many things in my swing and started leaning heavily on my short game to make my scores. I must have buffered in around 80% of comps in the second half of the season - very frustrating!

Anyway, it's back to reality tomorrow; struggling to fit in time to play, never mind practice so it'll be very interesting to see if I can continue to improve!

And even more interesting to see if I can handle the 9 to 5 treadmill again!

Currently doing the same thing. Quit my job to spend some time with my wife and also because it was not offering me the stability I wanted.

Not going to start searching until I get back off my holiday and I am going to enjoy weekday golf for just £100 until the end of March.

Off out 3 times next week! Cnt wait!

Not in a hurry to find a job but if the right one comes along I wont say no.

Good luck Karen. David had almost a year off and his game improved significantly. He's back on 5 days a week now and has been for a couple of months. Overall I'd say he's playing as well albeit a bit off the first few holes on a Saturday. In fact over the holidays we played almost every day and he was playing very nicely. So hopefully you'll find the same and at the very least maintain the status quo. We try to make one evening range session a week but the dark, wet nights mean we seldom make it as I'm the committed one (perhaps should be committed!!) and I'll usually have played or be playing the next day.

Hope getting back to the treadmill isn't too much of a shock to the system!

I kind of drifted in to early retirement 13 months ago, I half heartedly looked for another job but nothing turned up. Now the though of returning to a working life doesnt enter my head.

I hope its not too much of a shock to your system, or your golf game.

Hope you can cope with the grind, especially once the better weather comes. That aside, I wouldn't look on your achievements with anything other than satisfaction. Wins, buffer zones and loads of courses and games. You can't play well all the time and you sound like me always looking to groove or fix something. Sometimes we are better off going with something less technically correct but which works.

Keep us posted on how you are finding the rat race again
