Played with Hawkeye today. Course was in great nick and the weather was great. I had a really good ball striking day for a change but the thing that keeps letting me down are the wasted shots. On the 3rd only got 105 into the flag. Pulled wedge into a bunker - don't get out first time and take 6. 4th hole on the green and 3 putt. On the green in regulation at 10 and 11 and do the same thing.

Granted the putting probably needs a refresher lesson and some work but it is getting me down. The quality of the striking is so much better and even the short game is showing tentative improvement but I can't score.

I even had the misfortune to go OB on 9. Hit it slightly right of the green, it hit the trolly path and literally went 45 degrees straight right onto the putting green. Shouldn't have been that right with a 6 iron but got severely punished for a good strike that was only a bit pushed. Ho hum!

You'll find your way back soon enough. It's early doors for the season and most courses have only been playing "properly" for a few weeks. I know this has got nothing to do with going o.o.b. and leaving shots in bunkers, but scrambling and making up for bad holes is tough a.t.m. if you ask me. I'm cancelling out my 1-putts with 3-putts and leaving stuff short/long in most uncharacteristic fashion.
I'm throwing away shots being silly, like not trusting to club down, or expecting balls to stop dead which I'll soon get used to.

Re: : Frustration

Homer, my game mirrors yours at the moment. Never struck the ball so well in my life but cannot put a really good score in. My last ten rounds have been between 81 and 83 (par is 69). My ball contact on my short game is very good but I have got the touch of an elephant. I have even run through the green from less than 30 yards and it's driving me nuts. Mind you, I would rather have problems with the shorter stuff than the long game. Don't know about you but my course is as hard as concrete at the moment and I've suffered from a few crazy bounces so I reckon that with a good dose of rain it might make things a bit easier.

Howomer,If your striking the ball well I would'nt worry too
much, everyone on this forum would like a better short game,
but that takes a hell of lot of time that most of us aint got..stick with the programme..you know it makes sense.

You're being quite harsh on yourself, with your hcp you're going to hit a few duffers on the way so just enjoy! Do you practice too much, maybe a fresh perspective is needed ie this is as good as it gets and just look forward to scoring well on occasions.

Homer I feel your pain. A few twilight games in to the year and things have clicked regardarding my ball striking to a mega level. Played at gatton manor yesterday and with the exception of one fat approach shot my irons and woods were mega. I reckon I hit 14 gir's but just couldn't score. It wasn't a bad putting day, just a day where I couldn't judge my putts. I played some of the best golf I ever had and scraped in with a poor 28 points. Yes some of the greens are tricky, but no excuse. Hate this game!

It's definitely in there Homer and it's not a million miles away from what I've seen the last few days. I can understand the frustration having seen some of the luck you've had but as I've said to you several times the last few days - it'll come. Just stick with it (and keep Mr. Angry under control) and you'll be fine.
